I am looking to make a short film about 5-10 mins long. It is just for practice, because I am a little rusty. I haven't been to film school for years, but I want to get back in as a hobby perhaps. Anyways, I am wondering if anyone knows if there are free scripts available on the internet that I could look through?

I won't be submitting them for festivals or anything, just practicing to brush up.

Any help would be apreciated.

Why don't you start with telling people what genres you are interested in. Lots of people have a little something they'd just like to see produced.

You could look for a short one act plays to adapt to screen.

The style I am looking for is a subtle comedy, nothing too fancy, but perhaps with some creative dialogue

Here's an easy one of mine, but it has no dialogue.

Your main character, a regular Joe, drives off to work one morning and runs over a squirrel by accident.

He comes home, and the squirrel's mate, awfully pissed off, is chirping non stop, keeping him up all night relentlessly. The man goes to certain extremes, which you could get creative with, to kill the bastard.

But in the end, the squirrel is revealed sitting right above him on the roof, or under his window: the last place he'd ever look.

This is a great film to brush up your skills with, as you need some easy speacial effects (splat) some nature/stock footage, sound effects, and the entire premise is very flexible.

What if instead of a squirrel it was the man's ex-wifes new husband Bob, and instead of being an accident, it wasn't.

So then Bob's wife, Joe's ex wife hides on his roof for the next few days and squeeks at him? Well... If I were Joe, I guess I'd rather that than slashed tires, keyed car or even getting shot in the face.

If you don't care about owning rights to it, you could just redirect a scene from your favorite movie. Lots of movie scripts are available at http://www.script-o-rama.com/snazzy/dircut.html (click "film scripts" on the bottom).

Or you could find some old plays and direct some of that. Oscar Wilde's The Importance of Being Earnest, perhaps?

Oh man, that would be so funny. And he asks the cops to get her down because its driving him crazy, but they can't because technically she still owns half the house.

But they're not yet divorced, Bob's only her boyfriend. She wants to get divorced, but he doesn't, and he lures her off his roof with the divorce papers.

Oh man, when I read the story about the squirrel, I couldn't help but laugh. It is pretty much what I am looking for, so I think I will go with it if that is o.k. with you.
It is very simple in concept and has some room to be creative.

I love the idea that the squirrel's mate is angry and keeps him up all night.

I am thinking of something to tie the plot together at the end. For example: The squirrel drives him so insane due to sleep depravation that he does something crazy and ends up having to do community service scooping up roadkill.

That's a good idea. It's your movie now, so have fun with it. Maybe, if you're really feeling up to a challenge, you could have Joe get so frusterated that he runs out of his house in the middle of the night and is hit by a car.

Hey thats a better idea. I am not going to be making any money off it, but I will probably post it on this site. I will be sure to put your name as the writer.

Hmm... now all I need are some squirrels.

You could always try making commercials for your favourite or made up products. It's actually pretty fun to do. I helped a friend a few months ago make a 1-900 Jedi phone sex line commercial. It ended up being funny as hell.
