hey everyone, i'm looking to buy a camera, but i'm not sure what to get. i really know nothing about any of this, so i need some help. i've read a lot of good reviews about the gl2 and it seems to be within my budget, but i was wondering if that would be the best for an ametuer, or any good at all compared to others i might get within that price range.......please help.........thanks a lot.

If you can afford it, get the GL-2

I have a GL2 and am loving it. If you spend enough time with it, u'll have no trouble going from amateur to pro on it. I know their is a lot of talk about a Panasonic camera that shoots at true 24f , making it a better contender against the gl2? U might want to look into the panasonic camera because I believe it is around the same price range? I am not positive tho.. check out panasonics site and try and find the camera I am talking about!

what do you all think about the pd150?
and do you know anything about a store called digital liquidators?? again this is my first cam and i really know nothing....i'm a jounalist in the navy and took like a 4-week course, where i shot spots and some interviews, edited on the avid.....and thats about it.....i didnt really learn any technical stuff about the cam itself, except how to turn it on and off basically....so really i'm looking for quality in the $2,000 price-range, but is simple enough to use for a beginner, again thanks a lot for all the info....

If you are just a beginner, I wouldn't reccomend the PD-150 just yet...I think the camera that would best fit you and your needs at the moment is the GL-2....just my oppionion...

Don't buy there at all costs. It is one of the many east coast stores that will take the discount on the usuall price of the camera for rude service, no waranty, and they may even send you a PAL camera without telling you. Read the reviews at online price comparing websites. It gets like a total 1/5 review because of all sorts of nightmares. Don't buy at A&M photo or Broadway photo either, I beleive they're all owned by a larger company and are all into grey marketing.

I have a GL1 and it's great except for a lack of audio controls on-board. This can be fixed easily by getting a studio 1 XLR adapter and a good mic.

These two products in total will be less than 300, and the price difference between a used GL1 with these accessories and a GL2 with no accessories is far more than 300 bucks.

I'm perfectly happy with my GL1, and if you're trying to cut corners I strongly recommend you consider one.
