Video/photography places like B&H sell chroma key sheets that are specially designed to be smooth and vivid. Also, you can buy chroma key paint, and paint a wall. I'm sure that if you find the right color of fabric you'd be able to do it without paying mucho dollars for the chroma key sheets.
