Hey Heather--welcome.
Try looking at a party/Halloween store (ala Party City or something like that)if you want to buy it. Otherwise you can make it using a few recipes that can be found at this site:
Fake Blood Recipes

Good Luck!

alot of the party stuff is really really bright and looks kind of cheesy. depending on the way in which the injury occurs (falling, being knocked down outside, etc) adding some smears of dirt or mud can really help the cheesy blood.

You don't have to buy fake blood. You can make it with household items for cheap. Here's a link.

i assume we're talking about the death jump you mentioned in another thread. so you want a pool of blood forming around the dead actors on the ground?

party blood is not going to do that - you need tons and it's like toothpaste, it won't pool. you'll need to spread it with a putty knife! Roll Eyes

i'd def suggest a blood recipe from one of the sites people have linked to. maybe you can pump it out from under the actors with tubing of some sort. good luck!

The fake blood you buy is such a rip-off too. Its much less expensive to just make it yourself. Doing this also gives you the ability to make it however you want. Just mess around with the ingredients until you get the look you want.
(But make sure your actors are comfortable with whatever it is you're pouring all over them.)

I agree. Corn syrup and red food coloring works the best. Just make sure that you limit the amount of night shooting you do with it because it will harden in the cold and stick to the actor for several days.

I've had the same jar of blood for about 1 year now and its just starting to thin. (corn syrup and food coloring). I think you'll be fine, Kyle.

If you want realy nasty flack a little black bery jelly mixted in will do the trick. And a good cheep delivery system is a pump up bug sprayer, just remove the nozzle and replace it with clear tubing, and use a plumbing valve to regulate it so it dosent go every where when you pull the trigger.

For "movie" blood, corn syrup and red food coloring with a tiny amount of blue works OK. However, this is somewhat unrealistic looking because corn syrup is translucent. For extremely realistic blood, I imagine something using condensed milk or a flour/water mixture would be a better idea.

I have also used "professional" purchased blood with good results, although it's fairly thick. It's mainly good for close-up shots of cuts or scrapes - for splattering or dripping, homemade is superior since you can control the consistency.

I did a "KILL BILL" style blood squirting for a movie using corn syrup blood, at 1st I didn't think the blood would be thick enough to see on camera, I did a test run and the blood didn't spray well, so I added more water. This made it easier to spray out and looked really great.

I hope to finish this movie soon and put it on studentfilms.com
