Hey all,

I'm a student filmmaker from the Boston area, and I will be moving out to LA for a few months this summer. I was wondering how students out that way find locations for shooting. Over here it's sometimes as easy as just asking, but it seems that everyone over there wants like $10k a day just to use their apartment. I'm looking for a loft/bright open area space for an afternoon and I was wondering if anyone had any advice about finding such a space at an affordable cost. I could travel outside of the LA county area, but I just don't know where to go. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks all. Smile

If I hear or see anything that matches that description, I'll let you know.

For most businesses and apartments/houses - all you have to do is ask. I know that for my uncle's business, which is located on Sunset Blvd. in the heart of Hollywood, they have shot there a few times. I believe MadTV paid less than 2 or 3 grand for a 6-8 hour shoot. It might have been much less, and I'm talking about a big business with a HUGE backlot that they used. They shot everywhere, too.

Hope that helps.
