hi i'm writing a screenplay abotu a girl who really likes the dukes of hazzard (not the new movie, but the tv show) and i was wondering is it okay for the character to always be talking about the dukes of hazzard? i know that if i wanted to show a film clip i would need permission, but do i need permission to talk about them in the screenplay?

Of course its ok. Haven't you seen any indie films like swingers or clerks? The reference popular forms on entertainment all the time.

As long as you're not saying anything BAD about it. If it were some anarchist serial killer who was obsessed with the show you might get into some legal trouble.
