I have a short film (DV) that I want to enter into contests or festivals. Is there a list of free ones?

Also I need to know this... Is it illegal to use copywritten music on student films? Where can I read the copywrite laws? I'm the president of an official college film club and I need to know these things for amending my constitution. thanks!

Yeah, also check out www.filmfestivals.net Dont limit yourself to just free ones though. Some only require a $5 or $10 entry fee.

As for music. Most of the time, you can get away with it. Basically, your a small fish. As long as you compete in the student categories at film fests, you should be fine. If you were trying to compete in professional categories, and started to win, you might have a problem. Most likley though, at worst you would recieve a "cease and desist" commision. As a student, you probablly dont need to worry about.
