I love using material attachments in this kind of situation. Show, for instance, his favorite couch that he sat on a lot throughout the filming of his previous life. Make the audience sort of fall in love with the couch. Associate it subliminally with cozy, positive things. Then, after he starts to get settled in his new place, which should have a less positive feel, show something that is blatently similar to the couch he used to have back home. The audience would definately feel some of that same hominess that I'm sure the man would be feeling in a real-life situation. Of course it doesn't have to be a couch, but you get the drift.

i like the focusing on that i was thinkin more..like before he leaves he thinks of the hair or hands of the girl he is leaving behind kinda..u know..he will miss them but he knows he is moving on.. i was thinking it would end like if he is on a plane or something..he sees someone or meets someone a guy or girl and he feels u know, its a good new begining?

Apollo 13, in all of it's old-time cliched-ness actually conveyed that pretty well, if I remember correctly. | PerryKroll.com | TRC | "If not actually disgruntled, he was far from being gruntled." Wodehouse

It seems to me like the effects of leaving a place are really felt a lot more after the person leaves. I guess there could be s story in the person preparing to leave, but it seems like the more interesting story is in the changes (physical, emotional, etc) that take place afterwards.
Although, in general, people living doesn't seem like all that exciting a change to me. I left for boarding school: made a new set of friends, new home, new style of living- And really, no parts of it were all that exciting.
Have you ever left? That seems like the place to start thinking.

well it depends as a person what you are leaving behind and why. If you are leaving for school its awsome and exciting..if you are leaving hidding from something, or because u lost your life in that place thats not exciting. but in the same time u love that place, and really dont want to leave

Yeah, I see what you're saying, but I guess I just can't empathese with those emotions. It's just not me. I haven't experienced that and don't think even under such conditions it would affect me as greatly as it would affect someone else. But, anyway, as far as suggestions and comments that might be able to help you write it: -I think you should consider showing stuff after he leaves too, becuase I think without that, it can't be a full story. -Leaving is often a time when people start thinking about what's happened while they were there and coming to terms with stuff, so maybe the character would need to deal stuff from his past and get closure to that? -I think it's probably important to have emphasis both on the physical stuff (like actually packing bags, etc.) and emotional stuff. -As far as interesting story goes, there's good opportunities to have stuff like wild partying and vengeful attacks on enemies, although that doesn't really feel realistic to me, since I always just spend my last days somewhere sitting around. -Dan Copulsky
