I got a question that I'm sure there will be much discussion over:
A library is public domain, however, it is funded by the government to a great extent, so would one have to get many papers signed and insurance guaranteed in order to fim there?

It is open to the public, but so is a park and you need a permit to shoot there so the same applies (unless the people there dont care) Try contacting your local film commission they usually have more pull with state and government owned properties. If they are n help contact the state film commissioners office and play the "Im a poor film student " card. Good luck. R. Michael

im filming in a library conference room in a few weeks. no problem. public areas in librarys are heavily protected i know for sure. a theater group im in was rehearsing in a library and a friend of mine went upstairs with a camcorder and walked around and got yelled at big time by the library manager - cause librarys are legaly bound to protect their patrons from monitoring and stuff like that.

Thanks guys, I'm sure that I'll have a funny tale to tell once I actually ask the manager. Should I have them sign papers saying that can't sue me without a good cause?

I just walked in to my university library and filmed an entire movie. Took me four hours of filming, no one hassled me.
