For a final project in my film and literature class, we have to adapt a book. My friends and I have chosen to make a modern adaptation of "The Fellowship of the Ring." Does anyone know any ideas or have any tips to get people around our town to sponsor us so we have somewhat of a budget?

To be honest, even if you found someone to sponsor you, once you pitch your concept, most people will be turned off.
I suggest you try another book...

Churches, Small Businesses, etc. will be more than happy to help you in any way they can.
You could also tell them that in exhange for their donations, you will credit them in the production of the movie..(that usually gets them, worked for me a couple times)

Read "Welcome to the Monkey House" by Kurt Vonnegut and pick one of the short stories to do. I think you will enjoy the book anyway if you dont use one of the stories.

i think your teacher meant the adaptation of a less epic book.

are you going to do all the costumes and stuff, or like a spoof where the hobbits are just lonely nerds and the elves the popular girls?

vonnegut does some good stuff you can definitely shoot. also, there's quite a good number of novellas that can be adapted easily because they keep it short and sweet.

Well the adaptation is going to be modern, we have the script pretty much done and it will be done by next friday. So it's a bit late to start over with a new book. If you want the main plot email me and I can tell you if you want to know how we're are going to do it.
