i was lookin at a book in Barnes and Noble that said certain tab widths were used for different things, like direction was 2.3, character name was 5.6,dialoge 4.5, those arent what the book said but its jus an example

my questions r this.....

1) Are these tab widths necessary, and if so, what are they?

2) What script format is used most by screenwriters and could you provide an example of it

thanx

Websites like Drew's Script-O-Rama have full scripts available. Look at the ones in PDF that appear to be scans or OCRs of the actual documents, not ones that are text files or on a website. The formatting will imprint itself fairly quickly.

this is just my personal opinion, but unless yo plan on selling this screenplay, dont worry about the specifics, write it so it makes sense to YOU. I purposely make my screenplays a quartre of the length they should be in order to force my actors to make assumptions on their own, ask questions and make suggestions that i usually don't even consider making it a better collaborative effort - that's just a trick I believe in.
