Hey all, I've been lurking here for a bit trying to learn how to be a better filmaker. I'm in preproduction for a movie right now and i wanted some constructive critiscism on the plot of this movie. Well here it goes:
Life is hard in 1916 Ireland, With the first world war going on everyone is poor. Seamus, a veteran with the Royal irish rifles, leaves his family farm to go to dublin to get work in a factory.
On the road to Dublin he gets attacked by Paddy Molloy, a minor criminal. The two get into a fight but it is a draw. Paddy tell seamus about the terrible conditions in the dublin factories and offers to take him into a bareknuckle boxing circuit where he'd make money, meet women, etc.
The two join the boxing circuit together and get to be very good (with the exception of one fight where seamus is knocked unconscious by a Northern Irish boxing champion). They were so good that they are recruited by the Irish citizens army to be muscle and protect the ICA guerillas as they smuggle arms, blow up railways etc.
On easter 1916, Paddy, Seamus and the rest of the ICA and Irish republican brotherhood rise up to overthrow the british. Paddy and seamus are sent to hold a crossroads outside of dublin to delay british reenforcements.
During the night they are probed by the Royal Irish Rifles, Seamus' old unit. They fight them off but capture a prisoner, the Northern Irish boxing champion. Rather than execute him as the ICA wants they let him go free.
The next morning the RIR attack in force and kill or capture the ICA rebels. The NI boxer had been returned to his unit during the night and was, by chance, given charge of the prisoners whom he releases to repay the favor.
The Dublin rising is eventually crushed and the leaders executed. The movie ends with paddy and seamus sitting in a bar with other ICA vets toasting their fallen comerades.
Thanks in advance for any reply.

Sounds like it could be good. I don't think many people are familiar with the two organizations, but overall I think that if you take your time with it and have good acting in the film it should turn out pretty good.
I don't know how you plan to do it (seeing as Delaware doesn't look that much like Ireland ) but its a cool plot. I'm assuming its historically accurate, cause I don't know much about that era in Ireland. Good luck!

actually northern delaware looks alot like europe in the spring with all the hedgerows and farms.
I hope that with the movie (which as I finish up the script is turning into a docudrama more and more) I can teach people about such an important time in Irish History.

I'm going to get people to do accents, but unless 100% of the people can do a good accent I'm just going to have people speak with their normal voice with bits of irish slang thrown in here and there.

Allow me to recommend Accents: A Manual for Actors, its a superb book, and I think it can teach any accent to any decent actor! It comes with a CD that has examples and practices on it.
