I was just wondering if anyone here uses script writting software when writting their screenplays. If so, what do you think of it. Does it help organize your thoughts, make it easier, etc.

I use Final Draft and I really like it because it allows me to just write and not have to worry about the formatting issues. Also a lot of the repetitive aspects of writing are made easier by the program. However I can say that it won't help you write better stories, just help to let your writing flow freely.

I use Final Draft, too. I like it because it allows me to concentrate on content rather than proper formatting.

Celtx is an alright program. I've never tried any other program so I can't compare it. It is free though.

Final Draft is okay. I've been a bit annoyed with how buggy it is, and how certain basic functions like spell check, and the script reports simply DON'T work some of the time.

somebody already mentioned this, but i thought i'd also recommend celtx, it's easy to use, and it's free. check it out.

I don't set out to make "art" I just try to make something with a beginning, middle, end, and some characters...the art seems to come during the process.

None of the programs are worth a damn as far as helping you with the creative process. Some formatting shortcuts might be convenient if you put a lot of emphasis on that kind of thing (maybe you're a spec writer). I use the worst word processing software ever - MS Word. I used to use Wordperfect but the lack of support for newer operating systems became problematic. Also, nearly everyone can open Word files.

Well... they do help with the creative process in so much as they free you to think ABOUT the creative process, instead of formatting problems.

That and the name generator Big Grin

I used to use Word, but then obtained Final Draft and thought is was great and so much better. Then I lost Final Draft and started using Script Smart, which can be downloaded for free and used with Microsoft Word. Now I don't even have that, and I'm back to using just Word, and it does the job fine. I don't really see the point in paying hundreds for script-writing programs when Word is really all you need. Like its been said, what really matters is what you write.
