I have been thinking of writing a script in HIGH SCHOOL genre (Well, some may not agree that HIGH SCHOOL movies are a "genre" of their own). Before finalizing on something, I would like to read the best scripts in the genere to have an idea of the necessary elements in this genre. Friends, could you please post the names of the movies you think are the best in this genre? Within this genre, I would be more interested in subjects treated with Comdey and Romance (but I don't mind spending time reading other types also).

Have you seen Beyond the Valley of the Dolls? It's kind of a satirical piece (written by Russ Meyer and Roger Ebert) making fun of all the crappy teen movies that were coming out in the 60's and 70's.

Rushmore, definatly check that out.

Elephant...though not very comedic or romantic. More like horribly depressing.

Some of the best High School films ever:

Dazed and Confused by Richard Linklater (Slacker, Before Sunrise, School of Rock)

Fast Times at Ridgemont High (written by Cameron Crowe who wrote Almost Famous and Jerry Maquire and Say Anything)

American Graffiti by George Lucas (those Star Wars films) This was the first big film for Ron Howard, Richard Dreyfuss, and Harrison Ford. And the TV show Happy Days was based on the film.

Watch them now! Smile

'Bully' is one of the best high school movies ever, IMO. You can also nominally consider 'American Beauty'.

I highly recommend 'Bully'. One of the only films I've seen that actually represented the brutality of murder realistically enough to make me uncomfortable.
