A few years back, when I was just a young'n, I used to love writing scripts. I never worried about the budget, or locations, or actors, or even whether or not I'd film it one day. I didn't use correct formatting and my scripts generally sucked, but I loved doing it. It was fun, and I had a great time writing.
Now writing seems to have become more of a chore. Film ideas seem harder to come by because I actually want good stories, not just spur of the moment crap, and don't enjoy it as much as when I was a stupid, untalented, young screenwriter. I mean don't get me wrong I don't hate it all the time. Sometimes I'll get on a roll, have a great idea, write 15+ pages a day and love the screenwriting craft. But it seems to be a lot harder to get 'in the zone' than it used to.
So while the quality of my scripts have gone up and up over the years, the enjoyement seems to have gone down a bit. Anyone else have this happen to them?

(However, I just spent the last two hours writing a 5 and a half page screenplay which I'm really happy with, and which I quite enjoyed writing.)

I totally know what you mean. Just gotta keep that childlike wonderment. But yeah writing definitely seems like hard work now that I'm older instead of just being a fun hobby like when I was a kid. A good script when you're finished is definitely worth it though.

look at it a different way, like a child, but more insane.

scripts are for Hollywood. just write down ideas and get to the filming.

I've had the same feeling for the last year or so. I remember I sat down to write my first screenplays and loved doing it, but now it's just a pain in the a**. It seems I'm too impatient and just want to skip the writing process and go straight to shooting and editing.

Lately I've just been writing down small summaries with storyboards, more of guidlines than actual screenplays. Try giving that a shot. As long as the finished product comes out as you originally envisioned it, I don't see a difference.

See, I tend to think you guys made a mistake in burning yourselves out long before one would even have a snowball's chance to do screenwriting or filmmaking professionally...I mean, come on, you guys sound like you're having mid-life crisises or something! If you're still in your teens, and the thing you maybe once took satisfaction in doing when you were a little kid doesn't give you satisfaction now, then you should perhaps try to come to terms with the idea that you were never meant to do that thing for a living. When you're young, you should never feel obligated or pressured to do something like write a good script or make a good film, or be overly self-conscious about the quality of your result, you should do it because you enjoy it so much, or if the opportunity has just come along. Starting slow, going your own pace, and taking it nice and easy with developing and exercising your creative talents is the way to go. Let things happen the way they were meant to happen! Que sera sera! Don't let anyone tell you different.

There's absolutely no way that I don't belong or don't want to belong in the film industry. I love everything about it. I don't necessarliy hate writing. In fact, I don't hate it at all. I 'm usually just so anxious to get to shooting and editing, because I love those processes more than writing.
