Do you need a permit if you are taping/video? I have heard varying things about this. Please educate me on the use of permits with video/dv cams. Also If im shooting on location in a bar, besides talent releases and bar owner approval, do i need anything else to clear this? Thanks much.

Most of the time, you really don't need a permit. I say this only because it's a law that generally isn't enforced. When you need to obstruct traffic (vehicle and pedestrian) then a permit may be necessary.

Where there are ******* cops, you'll need a permit too, or big cities...low impact filming in small towns usually require no permit simply because you won't get caught.

Most of you guys probably know this, but Aronofsky's "Pi" was filmed without permits.
