No its not the title of my film you dirty dirty people you .
I was wondering how hard it would be to make a documentary on a garage band that is looking at recording their first EP. I think the tension will be high and make for intersting watching. Is there anything I should look at including? WIll the amount of hours spent at rehersals and recording be worth while in the end? Should I script it in parts, blow things out of proportion for entertainment aspects?
I'm thinking a "behind the music" feel. What do you guys think?

Reminds me of a mockumentary I did a few years back with some friends. Since they were all musicians and I had them jamming a little bit, much of the stuff was improvised as it would've been with a real band. Definitely go with the entertainment aspect.

The only problem with scripting some of it is that the "performances" of your friends will be very different from how they act in real life. I mean, many of the people on this site generally use their friends as actors yes. But we never see how those people are in real life so we don't know how they really act and we cannot tell. Your audience will probably be able to detect when your friends are acting, and I don't know if that will go over very well with the audience. And you may get some heckling over the validity of calling it a "documentary."
Michael Moore faces many of the same problems. He has some very scripted and planned out shots, and when people find out about those, he catches a lot of flack and it makes him look bad as a "documentarian."
What about a full blown mockumentary but with the characters based completey on the band members so really I'm just re-creating funny moments that they have already experienced. This way the audiences will get to see the real band members, as they would be playing themselves, but with a bit of prompting from me.
or
I could get them to just be themselves and suggest Ideas and topics to them and see what happens, if its good use it, if not, just scrap the footage and try again. SO real people, not acting at all, reacting to a situation.... sorta like reality tv, but more hip and based around music.
Any good?

If it was me I would just film them as they are and try and piece some entertainment together. i think the realsim would be the best thing. But its your film, so good luck with whatever you do.
