The Boston Motion Picture Awards offers independent filmmakers the opportunity to obtain the one thing that indie filmmakers find most elusive -- funding for future work.
In addition to other prizes, the winning filmmakers receive guaranteed money plus a percentage of all entry fees collected during the application process. In fact, the 1st Place Winner receives not only a $1,000 prize, but also 20% of all entry fees.
While the Boston Motion Picture Awards encourages students to enter the competition, we also encourage you to be responsible before applying to any festival or contest. For most students, money is tight, so we urge you to research thoroughly a wide assortment of competitions to determine which are the most reputable and provide the most opportunities to further your work.

Why would you want your money to be given to the winner? If I didn't win, I wouldn't want my money to be given to the winner. The money should go towards royalties.

<<"Why would you want your money to be given to the winner?">>
At least you know your moneys going somewhere. Most contests give you a certificate and they keep all the money for the judges. Nice to see something thats not just a scam.
Contests are for competition. If I pay 35 bucks and don't win, then the person who does win keeps it. Why would I want to give the money to the person I'm competing against??!? And yes, royalties. Ya know, the founders of the festival, the theatre who let films be shown in, vendors at the festival, people who helped with the festival. I would rather have my money go towards those things to keep the festivals running.

I can see why youd be worried about your money going to another filmmaker but I did some research. First it sounds like most competitions get their prize money from entry fees. They just dont tell you that. These guys are just honest and only bring in money for the fest when the winners makey money. Second I checked out other competitions like Accolades and Acclaim. They dont even offer much of anything worthwhile for winners except the joy of knowing you won it. This one offers money, trophies, free web space, books, magazines. I can totally see why a contest wouldnt be your kind of thing, but as far as contests go this looks like one of the good ones.
