Patterned after the holy grail of international cinema events, Sundance Film Festival, the inaugural Tartan Road Student Film Festival is slated to begin April 7-8, 2006 in Boca Raton, Florida. The initial response has been overwhelming with films submitted from Florida to California to Madrid, Spain.
Film categories include divisions for middle school, high school, and college level students. Each division contains spaces for music videos, narratives, documentaries, and action sports videos.
The purpose of the film festival is to showcase up and coming film production talent in an atmosphere where talent, ingenuity, and innovation trump large budgets and state of the art equipment. Student film producers will be judged upon originality, creativity, story telling, and ability to personally reach an audience through their original work.
The two day event, being held at the Roberts Theater in Andrews Hall – The Center for Performing Arts at Saint Andrew’s School, will include not only public screenings of all selected films but will also play host to seminars, discussion groups, and numerous industry related guest speakers.
Students of all ages and film experience are encouraged to submit their films to the Tartan Road Student Film Festival through Withoutabox.com. The deadline for submissions is February 28, 2006. In keeping with the student filmmaking tradition, festival submissions are a budget-friendly $15.
