DEADLINE: March 1, 2007
The Milwaukee Spotlight Student Film Festival is accepting submissions for its third annual festival, to be held again at the Milwaukee Art Museum on Saturday, April 28, 2007. High school students may submit their original work in six categories: narrative short, documentary, animation, experimental, music video, and public service announcement. The filmmaker who takes home the top award will then move on to screen their film at The Milwaukee International Film Festival later this year.
Interested students (and their teachers) should register online at
www.milwaukeespotlightfilms.org. The submission deadline is March 1, 2007. They will receive more information about how to submit their films when they go to register online.
The festival is planning an Oscar-style awards ceremony for the following afternoon, April 29th. The ceremony, to be held at Bucketworks, will include guest presenters from the local filmmaking community, screenings of the winners, refreshments, and of course, the red carpet. In the first two years, Milwaukee Spotlight has been able to award more than $10,000 in prizes, donated from local and national companies.
Milwaukee Spotlight was founded in 2005 by Dominic Inouye and James Carlson, the Executive Director of Bucketworks, a “health and fitness club for the brain,” located in downtown Milwaukee. It is the first organization devoted solely to supporting young film visionaries in Wisconsin—and beyond. In the first two years, 59 individual filmmakers and 7 classes from over 20 Milwaukee-area schools submitted. In its second year, Milwaukee Spotlight has grown to attract the attention of student filmmakers outside of Wisconsin. We can only wait to see what young talent Milwaukee Spotlight will attract this year.
