watching a Kubrick film for the first time is a memorable feeling. it all has to do with that first reaction you get when you see the images that he places before your eyes.
it's raw talent at its best.
if interested in other films to watch of his that will turn you on your ass, let me know. i can mention a few with such power as Full Metal Jacket.
well, if you liked FMJ, try A Clockwork Orange or The Shining--they are also a trip and a half. -------------------------------------------------------
this is the reply that i just received for a post i put up to another film student who had just discovered Stanley Kubrick.
who are these people? these people who don't even have the balls to leave their email so i know how to reach them. people who care nothing for advancing knowledge through these posts, but except spend their time writing such posts that do not offer ONE BIT OF INSIGHT to what really matters--FILM.
whoever wrote this pathetic set of words to my reply, do yourself and the rest of us a favor and keep it out of the COMMUNITY. you got a problem with me, then email me personally and tell me this, and if you still don't have what it takes to write a worthwhile reply, then just SHUT UP and keep it to yourself.

Full Metal Jacket was a good movie, The Shining wasn't that great - with the exception of Jack's role and A Clockwork Orange was horrible. These are just my opinions and I don't think they have anything to do with the topic of this post but oh well.

The first 20 minutes or so of Full Metal Jacket is a good short film. From there on it really just coats. i agree with you about Clockwork Orange, what a long time to go out without anything to say. I really felt like he just bombarded us with unpleasant imagery, which would be O.K. if he had even one original idea or feeling, but it was just heartless.
This isn't off topic at all, this is a film discussion board.
As an asside to Kubrick77, their probably Right, just ignore that guy and he'll vanish. You may be wrong about Kubrick, but you are right about it hurting the community.
Yep, I have already made Chris aware. I cant delete the user name, but all post by that individual will be deleted despite content. We do what we can, just try not to take it to personally. R. Michael

clockwork orange is the shi t....what makes the movie is the crazy music, awesome costumes, and interpretation of what slang dialogue will be like in the future...one thing thats never been done in film before and yet the movie was made so long ago no other filmmakers have caught onto this....realizing that slang will change in the future.
