Ehhhh....Pirates of the Caribbean was OK. I think at the most, it was good. I really admire the effort and originality put into this, and I loved Johnny Depp ("Why is the rum gone??"). But to me, Pirates of the Caribbean is simply overrated. Now I can see why so many people love this movie so, and I wish I could be one of them, but I just don't like movies designed to be epics. And Pirates of the Caribbean was, without a doubt, designed to be an epic. It's not just Pirates of the Caribbean, it's movies like Ben-Hur, Gladiator, and all that stuff. I don't prefer movies that have a huge, epic scope and a big budget to go with it, I prefer movies that work with what little they have. Movies like American Beauty, The Matrix, and this year's Freaky Friday all worked from scrap with rookie directors and they all turned out to be excellent movies. I think the important benchmark of being a good filmmaker is being able to make a great movie from very little. And that I is why I love so many films on this site, especially Please Play This on TV.

Finally someone else who doesn't think Pirates was all that. I was throughly disappointed with this film, ahem....movie. I liked Depp, I liked the pirates stuck in jail with the dog (In reference to the ride), and when they use an upside down boat to walk underwater. Those things were pretty cool, but other than that the movie just didn't do it for me. I cared nothing about the characters and the plot was tragically uneventful. Nothing kept me wondering what was going to happen next and worse, caring about what would.

Dude... that makes no sense...
The Matrix is so an epic/big budget movie- and there was nothing to "Please Play This on TV".
Matrix, American Beauty?? Low budget films?? What??? Are you an Idiot!!!! These films are not low budget!! And to slam Ben Hur and Gladiator??? Just so fricken ignorant you are. I let you know if it were not for those calibur films, you would not have the intrest you have in movies!!!
You are stuck on some stupid creative binge that make no sense. Just understand that being creative doesnt have anything to do with how much money you put into your work.
And what in the crap are you talking about, Freaky Friday!! You should be shot for even seeing that peice of crap.
Learn a little about your film history before running off at the mouth about films that revolutionized what we watch today...ignorance is not appealing!

wait where youre you non Pirates lovers when I was voicing my dissent on this message board and getting shot down? I mean, just listen to the crap I was getting when I said why i didn't like it:
"As for Alan Denton, yes, you are definately alone on this one. I didn't even bother reading why you didn't like the movie"
"I hate nitpickers, just enjoy the movie and stop taking notes on every single detail."
I felt like I was fighting a war by myself or something. We gotta stick together next time.
Hey it had nothing to do with pirates...I dont care if he liked it or not, BUT READ THAT THREAD!! The ignorance spuing from this guys mouth is incredible!!
This is what I was correcting, not his personal views on Pirates of the Carribean!

Yeah, whatever, you guys. Pig pile on the guy who goes against the grain with his opinions...I should have seen it coming. First of all, let me respond to the idiotic nitpicking of my words. I would consider The Matrix to be a low-budget movie, because of the immense amount of resources needed to make the movie and only 60 million dollars to do it (the sequels got more than double that money). Maybe you guys' perspectives of budgets are different, but that's your business, no need to yell at me for it. And American Beauty and Freaky Friday were DEFINETLEY low-budget movies because they only had budgets of 20 million dollars each. And fire away, General Kris, because I saw Freaky Friday and guess what, I LIKED IT. And so did a huge amount of critics, by the way. And as for you guys acting so revolted, horrified and insulted by my opinions....GROW THE HELL UP. I've visited several juvenile message boards full of mostly LOTR and Star Wars freaks who I'm used to assaulting people for their opinions. But here, on a mature site like this, I am very, very surprised. Maybe this site isn't so mature after all. Maybe ignorance of everyone's right to have their own opinion is more rampant than I thought. It's sad, really. Well, I'm going to bed, and I would just like to say you all should be ashamed of yourselves. You may now return to sucking your thumbs.

Wow I'm glad I didn't say they were low-budget. But what is technically low-budget? The Directors Guild of America says anything under 7 million.
As far as slamming Freaky Friday for no REAL reason and to have not seen it to boot....well I think that's going a little overboard. The original one was fun why not give an updated version a shot? My philosophy is to give any movie a chance, at least. For the longest time I wouldn't watch Spykids and when I finally did I really liked it.
Lastly, Dan the board respects your opinions but when you say something that is written incorrect, no matter how you "meant it", they're going to call you on it. Just explain yourself better.

i liked pirates of the carribean an awful lot. it was fun, and i thought original. the plot was definetly formalic, but that was part of the appeal for me as well.

Whatever Dan the man... just admit you're making nonsense...
Matrix was not a low budget movie.
The Matrix is a trilogy by the way... who's with me on the fact that the matrix is not a low budget movie and it is an epic and Dan just dislikes pirates for some reason he doesn't know how to explain...
"Who's with me"??? What the hell? I wasn't even aware we were in 3rd grade again! Wow, C. Davis, you are bar none the most immature of the bunch. And why don't I just settle the score right now and shut you all up...MAYBE I was wrong about budget perspectives, and MAYBE my opinion may be unpopular, but here it is. I DON'T LIKE BIG-BUDGET EPICS. There you go. The stupidity ends now.

Cool Dan. But "who's with me?" comment was simply asking who agrees... not a 3rd grade thing. But I'm sorry you don't like big budget epics... I guess you'll miss mine...
By the way, if you read through some of my posts, you will find a topic of discussion about reviewing shorts on here were I bluntly state sometimes you just watch something and don't know why you don't like it.
Anyway, why do you refuse to like ANY movie with a huge budget and an epic scope? I honestly can't understand?
Do you have the whole "hollywood sucks" attitude? I mean alot of people have that... is that what it is?
If someone offered you 20 million or whatever you consider "big budget" (200000 million) to make this movie would you refuse? Are you going to work for 45,000.00 a year and refuse the millions?
