I don't know why nobody liked the black and white scene in the crazy 88 fight.... I thought it was stuff like that that actually made this film worthy of applause. Honestly... TO me... the black and white is what gives the film it's originality... WHat if they stayed in color? it would not been as interesting... just another fight we've seen 100 times before.
I'm all for the black and white and hope to see more of it in volume 2

ya, i think i heard that too, hoeks. but in any case, i still really liked it in b&w and it was something new for these days.
There's just something about kill bill that draws me to it and makes me want to watch it again and again. I can honestly say that next to Pirates, i have not enjoyed a film more than kill bill this year. The reason i say i doubt think revolutions/return will be better is because the last two i was extremelly disappointed in. maybe it was the hype, but i was more hyped up for Kill Bill and wasn't disappointed in any way. I have some faith in revolutions to be good, but i dont like how return of the king is looking.
It's just one of those things you know, Kill Bill isn't for some people. Some people will absolutely hate the film because maybe they're not used to the over-the-top anime style violence (i personally loved those films as a kid).
In MY opinion, of all the movies i've seen this year (and since i work in a movie theatre, that's about 80% of stuff that has come out), Kill Bill and Pirates of the Carribean are my favorite films of the year, with no films really trailing. I mean, i liked films like out of time and really liked phone booth, but those two excel for me.

I wasn't impressed. Although my fellow filmmaker friends say it was great, I think it was just exactly what I expected - nothing more, nothing less.
I'm not going to the detail of why I didn't really like this. I'll just say I was as entertained as when I watched Freddy Vs. Jason...
I won't give this one any more props because of its director. I think this is QT's most ripped movie yet.
Great DP work (lights, cinematography, etc.) and music but yeah that's about it...
The fight scenes could have been less rediculous and we would been able to see then entire movie at one time. I'm pretty sure the volume 2 or whatever will contain more overrated fighting... blah blah blah...
My friend's come back to my contentment was, "You can't make a better Kung Fu movie."
Well there's only one way to find out, "Give me $45 million and I think I could!" Bling Blang Blung...
This is like Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon Quentin Tarantino syle.
Alright Chad, obviously these fight movies aren't for you, and that's okay, they aren't meant to be. What angered me about Crouching Tiger was that it wasn't fun, it was Ang Lee being overly serious about a movie that didn't deserve as much. This movie had the wackiness and wildness that a proper kung-fu movie deserved. Honestly there is no reason to like this unless you are a fan of these chop-socky flicks. If you are a fan and you still didn't like it, then yeah, maybe there's something wrong with you. Back to the Crazy 88's scene. Screw the black and white being original, I can't think of a single moment where you could use black and white to be original. I do agree that it has something to do with the MPAA being tight-asses though, that was my first opinion. The black and white totally didn't fit because of the hectic nature of the fight scene. In old samurai flicks like Yojimbo or Sanjuro, which were black and white, the style fit their minimalistic nature of camera angles, cuts, and scenery. It was totally not needed for this movie, however, where the colors are a huge part of the beauty of it. Besides, I wouldn't have caught that that one guy had gotten his mouth cut open if it weren't for a picture that Kyle had posted (the picture by the way being in COLOR.) Anyway, that scene totally needed color. All that aside, that silohuette fight, awesome.

NOTICE: People before seeing the film remember it is a practice in style over substance, paid tribute with a passion to a directors favourite film genre.
Saw it.
The first 3/5th's (with the ocasional interesting segments) were a bore; I almost fell asleep. But the House of Blue Leaves chapter saved it, and definitely has some of the best (if not the best) fight scenes in cinema history. The tension killed me, everytime there was someone in the room, I thought they would die. If I see it a second time I'm sure I'd enjoy it more.
Also, if you ever plan on becoming a filmmaker, observe Tarentino's brilliant use of the incorporating the medium, absolutely astonishing. Only few directors can pull off lyrical music without it being overly heavy handed and abrasive.

I really want to see this movie!!!!!!!!! But I can not because I am not 18 yet!!!!!!!!! So I bought a ticket for another movie and then I tried to sneak in to Kill Bill, but then I got caught and I had to see Fool proof instead. I am going to have to try and sneak in again.
I've talked to people who didn't like matrix because the used "fighting" as a source of action... but the Matrix has a freakin' point a story... this first part of the movie is basically
---spoiler for who hasn't seen it so IF YOU HAVEN"T SEEN KILL BILL DON"T READ THIS!!---- . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
This is the damn story... don't give me the "it an homage" spill. QT is supposed to be known for is cool storys and dark humor which he threw out the f!cking window on this one. The only this one had was an excess of blood and foul language... An the typical black out and HEAD LEADs to the next "chapters".
Wedding is shot to sh!t. Woman awaks 4 years later assuming everyone [including her unborn child] is dead. The VOs a lot of crap back story and then makes a list of like 5 people to kill and end up killing only 2 of them in this volume and the audience finds out that her daughter is still alive...
$75 a screw? More like $7.50 a screw. This movie blew.

Thank you Chad. I agree 100% The only viewers who like this are fan boys and internet geeks (no offense to those who hold those titles) I went to see it and the theater was empty, I found it a bit boring , the anime was to long, the black and white was annoying especially for I was told was a "really" gory bloddy movie. I woud like to see some blood in color? I found myself thankful I didn't have to watch another 2 hours of this.
Give me 45 million and I could make fight scenes which are less cut shots and less close ups and you get to see the FIGHTING!
Not a bad movie but definitly over-hyped. IMO
Dangerous Minds make the most sense

I am no way a QT fanboy (i haven't even see half of his films) but this is an excercise in style over substance. You have to go the theatre with certain information of the directors interpretation. It's like going to see Bad Boys 2 (which I loathe) looking for an intense crime drama.
New criticism is it's name, directors goal is its game.
P.S. They showed the Crazy 88 fight in black in white for American audience reasons. In Japan, it's all in color.

That was all in B&W to avoid an NC-17 rating. Maybe the DVD will be more "colorful."

By the way I see myself totally not as a QT fanboy but I am in LOVE with this film (yea I will say it 391 times on this boards:P) In my humble opinion, it was better than Pulp Fiction. I know, most will disagree. I have yet to see a film with more style than Kill Bill. This film is not overrated, it will be one of those flicks people will remember. Kill Bill will find his way into Film History books like Pulp Fiction did before.

the only thing that was disturbing was the 8-10 years old girl with family in front of me...luckily, they left the cinema after the anime....c'mon, that's just sick, someone should kick her parents ass

to all those who believe they can do a better fight movie with 45 million dollars...CONGRATULATIONS, I wish I would be as good as you guys. I am sadly aware that the chances are extremely high that I will never be able to do a film like this.

allright! i just came back from seeing it. thought it was pretty cool! ive seen a handfull of samurai films so i really enjoyed it. did feel kinda weird seeing only the first half, it was like watching two fight scenes and thats it. id say the part with sonny chiba was my favorite, although the teahouse fight was quite awesome. i did find myself a little confused about one bit. when she escapes the hospital she takes bucks car, and you see her drive up to whats her names's house ( the one with the daughter). i thought she went to japan first. why would she still have buck's car? great entertainment though. loved the camera movements and colors of japans neon cities.

ok...so she escapes in bucks wagon, goes to japan, and comes back for the second victim in bucks wagon? is that a continuity problem or did she like the wagon enough to keep it somewhere until she got back from japan?
