I love Cormac McCarthy. If you don't know him, he authored All the Pretty Horses and recently wrote The Road, which Oprah decided to hail and has recently cast his name into the public (he supposedly will give his first ever TV interview to her in June). His great Western novel, Blood Meridian, which I got around to reading a few years back, is amazing in every way and has become my favorite novel. There are whispers of a movie version of that FINALLY being realized, but I don't think anything is confirmed yet, and that would be a very very very hard film to do while doing the book justice. I know the Road is going to be optioned for a film too, based on what I've read.
But anyway, my point is his book from 2005, No Country from Old Men, has been made (and premiered at Cannes) by none other than the ****ing Coen Brothers, and from what I hear, it's god damned amazing. I picked up the book recently after months of procastination, and while not his best book, it's great, and I can picture this as a return to form for the Coen Brothers. As I read the pages, it seemed like something out of Blood Simple or Miller's Crossing. It was almost made FOR these guys, I swear.
So not only am I excited that an excellent book by one of my favorite authors has been faithfully taken to film, but I'm also happy the Coen Brothers are back after The Ladykillers. No more ****in around here. Don't get me wrong, I loved the Hudsucker Proxy. But I also loved Fargo, and this one is going to probably be one of the best, if not the best movie of the year.
It hits theaters in November. So be ready.

I finished the book a few weeks ago, and I've seen some clips from the film. Mark my words, someone is getting an oscar for this film. Expect nominations for best adapted screenplay, best supporting actor and best director. I haven't even seen the movie yet and I can tell you this, unless the academy pulls a children of men and totally ****s this movie over too.
Here are some clips from the movie. Most clips have spoilers, for those who do not want to be spoiled, check out clip number 2.
I'm sure no one cares. Wait until everyone is raving about this movie in 5 months, just like everyone raved about McCarthy when ****ty Oprah tossed his book into the public eye.
I hate this world.

I don't really want to make any judgments about this film yet (trailers rarely ever give the right impression) But what do you see in this? What exactly are you hoping for?

in reference to braininabox: I read the novel and it's ****in great. Also, just look at the clips. The shots, cinematography and acting are all great; the coens kept it to a tight 2 hours while still staying faithful to the book. They also took a lot of chances by staying that faithful, as McCarthy did a lot of odd things in this book which will translate well to film I think. Some will be disappointed by the techniques and choices of the structure, as well as the fact that there's no music, but in the end I think it'll make this all the more memorable.
Trust me, this will be one of the most talked about films of the year. If I'm wrong, it'll be a crushing disappointment, but I don't think I'll be wrong on this one.

I love the Coen Brothers and hold them personally responsable for me wanting to get into film, (I'll get even with them some day) And this looks GREAT! Can't wait!
But I could care less if it's a huge success, the film is made and I'll get to see it, the Coens will continue to make films because they are the Coens, so who cares if it's a huge hit, that was never the Coen Bros style anyway.
Relax Larry, it should be enough that you are looking forward to it! But thank you for pointing it out!

I don't care if it's popular either, I just know that no one is excited about it now, but suddenly every idiot will be a long time hardcore coens fan at the end of the year. Especially with the oprah buzz about McCarthy too.

My apologies, I thought I was pickng up on some passive agressive misdirected hatred for an intangible element such as "everyone", which probably intereferes with your ability to find worth in your own opinion unless bolstered or refuted by others; which then creates an ironic circular behavior pattern that some call teenage angst.
But I guess I was wrong.
Now I want to read the book, I heard alot about The Road as well, did you read that one?

Unfortunately, I can't share your enthusiasm because the name Cormac McCarthy makes me instantly start yawning. I'm yawning right now, having just typed it. Which is really absurd because I haven't read any of his books. His titles are enough to make me throw up in my mouth a little.
I realize this sets me up for all kinds of obvious criticisms. At least I can say an appreciation of Cormac McCarthy is one more thing I don't share with Oprah.
By the way, I think "every idiot" is already a hardcore fan of the Coen brothers.

Wow... can I please use this in a screenplay?
Long live the Coens. The one clip I saw was very nice and naturally, since it's the Coen brothers, I look forward to this film. However I probably don't share the same enthusiasm as you do since I've never read/heard of the book. I think the reason people aren't talking about this film yet is because it's nearly half a year a way. The buzz will get huge once it's a little closer I'm sure. Thanks for posting the clips and whatnot.

It's people like this that really truly confirm my belief that you can never ever take "audience" into account when you create anything. Because so many of them sit around in the corpulence of their own uninformed opinions and take little to no effort to be active participants in thier own lives.
They simply lack the skills to get over themselves and live a fufilling life, they truly enjoy nothing.
Oh well i guess the Transformers has an exciting title and will more than happy to take your money.

I dont think arguing and using philisophical terms will change Jerry's distaste for the titles of McCarthy's novels. You can't pretend that we all don't judge books by their covers.
Also one thing that turns me off about the trailer is the coin-flipping obsession. It seems as if they just tacked a random behavior on to the character in hopes of instantly and cheaply doubling his "quirkiness" and "originality". Then again, I havent read the novel, so I cant make any definite judgments on character development.

fair enough, i just think he's missing out. Maybe I'm a wackadoo but to dismiss an accomplished writer because you don't like his titles is a hard point to defend. But f*ck it I only pretend to read, i'm in it for the cover designs.
And yeah isn't the coin thing from Batman? Two-face right?

They overdo the coin thing in the trailer which sucks, because he only does it twice in the book.
I don't know how people don't like movies like Fargo or Blood Simple, or are at least interested by them. I know people have their own tastes and whatnot, but some of the opinions I've seen on this board are ****ing alarming. It seems a lot of people put stuff like Star Wars or Little Miss Sunshine over stuff like Citizen Kane, the Third Man, and Taxi Driver.
And Jerry or Jeremy or whatever clown name you have, I understand what you mean. But I'm going to use the same logic you used and assume you don't read books and enjoy fingering your ******* while you celebrate your jaded stupidity.
