I just watched the Magnolia behind the scenes documentary, and it was awesome!

The Lord of the Rings 4 disc DVD collection is also kick ass...By far the Best DVD ever! Tons of Bonus features...

So, can anyone recommned me any DVDs with GOOD behind the scenes features and/or commentaries?

Pulp Fiction has a few "making of a scene" scenes documentary...it's basically just Quentin Tarantino, or a friend, walking around with a little handleheld camera while setting up the scene for the JAck Rabbit Slim's Dance Contest and the scene where Bruce Willis runs over Ving Rhames. It's pretty funny listening to Quentin Tarantino talking with his crew...they seem to get along real well. It's fun to watch...but only about fifteen minutes long.

I've said this before, but, the commentary on Spy Kids 2 is great, Rodriguez seems talk without even taking a breath, and he's all about the little filmmaker, it's great.

I really liked the LOTR commentaries too. The Criterion Collection commentary of Armageddon is funny as hell, with Bruce Willis, Ben Affleck, and Michael Bay. Also I really like listening to Ridley Scott's commentaries for some reason. I cant wait to get the new Black Hawk Down: Special Edition. Although it pisses me off that the always release better versions later. Im glad I refrained from buying the original.

I also really liked The Usual Suspects commentary with Bryan Singer and Christopher McQuarrie. They both provide very good insight into the making of the film.

I also liked Hart's War's commentary track. And the new Star Wars commentaries really suck ass.

Hands down the El Mariachi commentary. Rodriguez gives film techniques for people without budgets which is most of us.

"Signs" has a great "making of Signs" section on the DVD. Check it out! Same with "Attack of the Clones"

Besides filming, the only other thing I ever did good was filming.

I probably have a world record for listening to these since I run them in my office all day while I work.
I don't want to be entertained, I want to learn, here's some good ones.

BEST (in no particular order)

Braveheart - lots of great frame rate and camera tricks, I actually had to stop and take notes

Insomnia - this commentay runs with the scenes in the order they were shot, very unique and insightful, it's the only one like it

El Mariachi/Desperado/Spy Kids - great cheap tricks from Robert Rodriguez

Bound - Wachowski Bros

Brazil - special ($55 ouch!) edition is cool

any Toxic Avenger or Troma Studios movie - great cheap tricks

Citizen Kane w/Roger Ebert commentary - I really enjoyed this one a lot even though I'm not the world's biggest Ebert fan. He knows Cane, though.

John Carpenter's Vampires - is ok, as are his other 6 or so movies with the track. Some aren't great, but most are ok.

BAD commentaries
Most of them, unfortunatly.
Mindless yammering about nothing in particular, no good technical details, insights or information, just SMALL TALK SMALL TALK SMALL TALK for 90 minutes.
Ridley Scott is a small talk kind of guy, and apparently tapes his during a buffet breakfast after a red eye flight or something.

From a previous post "the new Star Wars commentaries really suck ass."
I wholeheartedly agree with that.
When did 485,764 effects shots make a good movie? CG "artists" (formerly known as nerds/geeks) that sit at a desk all day don't make good commentaries, and Lucas' rare donations are lost in the morass of nasal diatribes.

One last thing while I'm ranting - DO NOT fork over $38 for the super special edition of Dogma with a special Kevin Smith & whoever "technical" commentary track.
I've never been so unhappy with a DVD, the "technical" track is the same as the regular comment track. It's a bunch of stoners making small talk about whatever the hell rich stoners make small talk about, not jack of technical anything to be found, I listened twice to be sure.
Smith even says at one point that they should be talking about technical things since that what this track is supposed to be and here it is 45 minutes in and they haven't yet, but they continue the mindless yammering anyway.

The Toxic Avenger has some funny stuff on it.

And the Texas Chainsaw Massacre Special Edition has a good commentary, deleted scenes, and a documentary of the making of Chainsaw. Good stuff.
