The script? Well, yeah that sucked. The acting was good, considering the script they had to use and as you said since the script wasn't great, they didn't have much to work with. I still think they did a decent job regardless, minus some pretty cliched scenes. I hated Eddie's acting though - his voice, his...everything! One thing I didn't understand was when the symbian attached itself to Parker, his body didn't seem to bulk up, but as soon as it fused with Eddie - he looked as if he had been hitting the gym for years.
Direction was bad, but I thought the CG was pretty cool. What exactly in the CG was bad, or not up to par?
It depended on what you wanted out of Spiderman, I suppose. I wanted an entertaining, good Marvel movie and I think that's what they delivered. Granted the movie could have ended a couple times and didn't, but it still had a pretty solid effect nonetheless.
This movie is one of the reasons why only go see movies at midnight premiers now.
The whole theater was whooping, hollering, laughing . . . it was how a movie should make a room react.
(WARNING, SPOILERS AHEAD)
No, it wasn't the best movie, and when I watch it on DVD I'll probably start tearing it apart and wishing that it was I who directed it, but you know what? For about 2 hours my friends and I were entertained and had a good laugh, saw Venom, got to see the Hob Goblin, got to see Mary Jane smacked, watched Peter Parker do some zoot suite riot jazz, and got to here Harry Osbornes best line ever:
"How's the cake?" "It's great."
I didn't like Harry Osborne for the majority of the movie, but when he started going all crazy toward the end, he did an awesome job!

I think that Perry's criticisms are frankly wrong as I think he knew exactly what he was doing and he just didn't like it. There's a difference between not liking what you see and saying that it is incompetent.
The script was pretty damn sloppy though. Still it didn't bother me enough to kill my enjoyment and the non-film/non-comic book audience I saw it with ate it up.
This thing is gonna be huge.
But that's just my opinion. I could be wrong.

I never understood why anyone even liked the first two. The performances are always horrendous and every scene is super cliche. People always seem to use the hype to make it a bigger, better movie than it is.

I went to the midnight screening and thought it was absolutely horrible. Worst movie I've seen in a long time. What a mess.
I deeply regret going to the midnight screening, partly because I had a 7 AM call time this morning, but mostly because I just would have been happier unconscious.
The Second one was all right, and like I said, the third one isn't a great movie, but I looked past that and just had fun with it.
is it wrong to go to a movie and just have fun? Is it wrong to go to a movie once in awhile and not criticize it?
I was expecting a darker story, but instead they turned it into this comical fun show, and I was ok with that.

Between this and Grindhouse, I don't think I've had to deal with so much dissapointment in my life. I don't go to theaters very much as it is to see movies I want to see, with the exception of these two. It took a lot of convincing of some friends to go see Grindhouse, and I was severely distraught afterwards, and although this took no coaxing, it just added to the pain. My confidence in the modern movie industring is quickly waning, and if I hadn't seen the Science of Sleep in theaters, I'm not sure I'd see another movie again. Anyway, let's put this movie behind us and prepare for what should be an incredible film in Synechdoche, NY.
EDIT: By the way, I also saw the trailer in this movie for Across the Universe, and I am once again enthralled and excited.

Just got back from seeing it. Thought it was...a decent distraction. Nothing to write home about. It just felt too long, like they tried to stuff way too much into the movie. Just completely scattershot. The makers should have gone with the darker tones the previews implied and focused more on the Venom creature (which I thought was pretty cool). The writing was abyssmal, camera placement was off, but I thought the CG was pretty good (though, you would think with $350 million they could finally make it so I couldn't tell when it was CG). Overall I had fun while watching, which was the point, right?
I actually liked the original Spiderman - thought it was really entertaining, if not life changing. The second was OK, better done but just not as fun. The third was the least of the three. But again, it was fun while it lasted.
PS - I thought the whole John Travolta, strut-your-stuff segment was hilarious. Didn't fit AT ALL with the movie though.

I just got back recently from watching this flick and I can not believe the **** I just put myself through. The script was...well, there are no words. At best it looked like it was a first draft that no one cared to revise. So many cringe-inducing moments that I began to think Raimi was playing a cruel joke on me.
Did anyone notice how bad the extras were? It seemed that ALL of the extras were unbelievably horrible. It's amazing really. "WICKED COOL!" What the hell?
I thought the first Spiderman was ok, and for some reason I thought, for what it was, Spiderman 2 was excellent, so I actually had high hopes for 3 even though I generally dislike comic book movies. But, wow... I would not suggest seeing this disaster to anyone. I mean the acting, the script, the pacing, the completely unbelievable reactions...
Am I overreacting? I don't know. I feel like having paid 8 bucks for that gives me the right to go a little overboard.

Sometimes I feel that film majors are so interested in movies that they don't get them anymore.
Yeah, I think anyone with a filmmaking mindset can forget to just sit back and enjoy a movie sometimes. However, I was really pulling for this movie. I wasn't looking for a cinematic masterpiece I was looking for an enjoyable movie-going experience. But it's hard for me to enjoy a movie that (in my opinion) has no heart. Raimi packed so much into this film, it just seemed so artificial and contrived in the end. Basically I thought it really lost the spirit of the first two of the franchise. It's also hard for me to just sit back and enjoy a movie when the acting is so bad that its just slapping you in the face.
Having slept on it though... there were indeed some enjoyable parts. I thought the bit where Sandman took form for the first time was great, and of course the fight sequences pretty cool, although, in my opinion, nothing we had not seen in the previous two. But, as a whole movie, I just kind of wish I had waited for it to come out on video.

I loved all the one-liners while the fights were going on.
"I protected you in High School, now I'm giong to kick your little *ss!"
"Oo, I'm so scared."
Haha, but that's comic book movies for you.
Raimi should have just nixed the sandman entirely (the backstory to him becoming the sandman was pathetic - he's just running and happens to fall into some particle manipulator in the ground that's just protected by a chain-link fence....what?). That character was just too...out there. TOO comic-booky, if you know what I mean. A 30 story sand monster? Come on!
I wanted to see more of venom.

I would have loved the movie if only I didn't have to judge it within the context of the previous two. It was very funny and very entertaining, but it was the inconsistency that ruined it for me.
I just went and Seen it yesterday night...I expected a whole lot more from it..expecially from a 300 million dollar budget...I would have to agree with Perry and say for me The Biggest dissapointment for me was the CGI. the CG was dreadfully horrible for a movie with this kind of money backing it and the first two looked more realistic in terms of CG, I will say the CG did get better as it moved on, but at the beggining A lot of the shots of spidey flying through the city were dreadful, this movie was like the Eragon of the spiderman trilogy for me. The writing was cliche' and the beggining action sequences were filmed horribly, you really seemed constricted while watching some of the first fight scenes and that they were Fake.
Sandman could have been taken out completely, like what kind of crap were they pulling there? It was really cheap of them that they couldn't think of any other way to make him an enemy of spiderman. Like come on...changing him as the killer of his uncle??!! how uncreative is that? We've been through that. (personally I think if they make another spider man they'll have aunt may the master mind behind his uncles killings, and she'll have hidden superpowers...or maybe she'll accidentally fall into a hole and get transformed into sandwoman!! (that was stupid too..like comeon!) It didn't really give a beggining or ending for sandman...and thus they could have tooken him out and still had Harry and Venom and spent more time explaining them. And what was with the Venom goo randomly falling from the sky?? right by peter?! random again They did some very terrible introductions in this movie!
I just can't believe that with 300 million and 3 years they couldn't have thought this out more..it just seemed lazy.
TO give the movie some credit...I did laugh at a couple scenes..haha Dan..the pie scene..and the Dancing scene was pretty good..tho a bit weird for spiderman..some of the ending action sequences were good...seemed like a whole new person made them (loved the part with the banging poles) haha w/e this was the last one so they can do whatever they want with it..everyones going to see it anyway!
