I'm the president of a movie club at my high school. Due to the school's rules, we're not allowed to have R, NC-17, or NR movies with equivalent content played as club events. This is very limiting. I'm looking for good movies that manage to get rated PG-13 or less. Anyone have any suggestions?

Wasn't Forrest Gump PG-13? That's the first one that comes to mind.

Once Upon a Time in the West is rated PG-13. The Dollars trilogy isn't really even bad enough to have an R rating, but at the time they came outI guess they were a lot more violent than most movies. But you most likely can't show those since they say "R" on the back of the DVD.

Yes, Forrest Gump is PG-13. I can't really think of any others at teh moment, but if I do, I'll get back to you.

LOTR? Big Grin

hmmm.... lots of Spielbergs seem to be PG-13 or lower. In fact, lots of old movies are (rather incorrectly) rated PG. I'm trying to think of some examples...

Welcome. I see you're from Raleigh (I'm 90 minute away!).

I'm guessing that most high schoolers have seen the better PG-13 movies from the past 5-10 years (just an assumption). You might be better off showing some of the older classics. A few "recent" ones, off the top of my head:

THE MAN WITHOUT A FACE
SIXTH SENSE
SEARCHING FOR BOBBY FISCHER
JAWS
THE STING
YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN

A few "Classics" (older movies)

12 ANGRY MEN
THE GREAT ESCAPE
BUTCH CASSIDY AND THE SUNDANCE KID
THE SEARCHERS
STALAG 17
A NIGHT AT THE OPERA (Marx Bros)
RIO BRAVO
PLANET OF THE APES (original)
THE DIRTY DOZEN

Either way, here is the list of IMDB's top 250 movies (as defined by users).

I hope the list helps. Good luck.

Yes, there are plenty. So much essential viewing (almost anything through the middle sixties) should work well. What kinds of elements do you want to showcase? Did you have any criteria going into this? If you keep open-minded you shouldn't feel that limited at all. Here are more to consider:

Sunset Blvd.
Harold and Maude
Amadeus
Annie Hall
Fitzcarraldo
Dr. Strangelove
Citizen Kane (of course)
They Shoot Horse, Don't They? (I believe this has some brief nudity, but still you have a PG rating)
The Seventh Seal
Cinema Paradiso

There are too many worthy titles to mention. Good luck.

I'm not sure what type of films you're looking for, but there are plenty of movies PG-13 or lower in rating. Here are some of my favorites (not in order):

Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World
Indiana Jones
Lord of the Rings
King Arthur (if you get the PG-13 version)
The Village

Branch out to the French New Wave and Italian cinema from the 60s......none are rated and an ignorant school administration wouldn't suspect that art films have untasteful raunchy sex or gore (although they sometimes do)

psst... ben... he said no NR were allowed Big Grin

though that reminded me - the two BEST comedies i've ever seen are foreign, and PG-13 or lower (don't remember which)

The Dinner Game (French, UK one is supposed to be bad)

Waking Ned Devine

That movie was awesome! I totally forgot about it. What a great great movie.

Ned Devine was great, too. Definitely look into these two.

Unless you plan on watching bootlegs, the village and the forgotten are not even on dvd. What about "American Graffiti"?

The Star Wars Trilogy!!!

Or, if you can get a school official to approve it, get Conspiracy Theory. Its rated R, but there's NO cursing or nudity in it. (Just some guy gets his nose bit while he's interrogating! Ha Ha!) They'll have to let you watch after they see it.
