True dat. Her heart may go on, but let's hope her singing doesn't. If I hear that song one more time, I'm going to go friggin' crazy...
I'm also not very fond of rap songs. Most rap singers are total wannabes, trying to be cool by any pathetic way possible just to make money (with the possible exception of Eminem).

Dan Gross surely isn't right on this one. How could you call rappers wannabes and then make an exception for the only white guy in the business? Rappers aren't trying to be cool talking about *****es and ho's and clubs, THATS WHO THEY ARE, THATS WHAT THEY DO. You can't descriminate cuz you done read a book or two. Are you from Greenwich or something? Instead of being so opinionated why dont you be happy about them rising from obscurity and not robbing you house.

Rap is now a business, before it was the underground railroad out of the ghetto. In the 90's most rappers were black, so Dan Gross was right in saying that Eminem is good because he is good and he's white and he brought something original to rap scene. There are still so many great rappers out there of which most are black, but you have to admit a lot of the newer and younger rappers are trying to take advantage of the business, and just ryhme two words together, about guns, murder, and oh yeah bling-bling, played with a drumloop. Tupac told the world that there was trouble in the ghetto ten years ago, it's time for the youngsters to take advantage of the world that he and many others like him opened up for them, and write something new and original.

I know there are many phony rappers out there. Its just infuriating when people make such broad generalizations. And when your black you feel the need to defend hip hop and "rap singers".
The current state of music in whole is just like the current state of movies: waning. But you wouldn't condemn a whole genre would you?

I find rap very condridicting. Eminem for an example. In his songs, he talks about raping his mother. And i know we have never heard in the news that he has done this. And all of these other violent things they talk about. Murder. Its like its all talk and they think they are the sh**, but nothing they say is true.
Ladies and gentlemen...today we have dean martin and jerry lewis going to camp with us...Jerry tells the jokes, dean sings the songs and gets the girls...lets have a big round of applause!~~~Remember The Titans

Thats like saying all rock bands are depressed junkies who are going to kill themselves.
Hip Hop is art, art is expression, expression is however you feel at that time. So what they contradict themselves, I'm sure you've done it and I know I have.
And not all rap is about weed and clothes, guns b*tches and ho's. Some talk about self conciousness and political activity, some talk about both. Sure its not on MTV everyday, but come on, we're independent filmmakers, we should know how big business comprimises the art and artists.
And news flash: You can kill somebody and not get caught for it, ask Biggie and Tupac.

No I couldn't condemn any specific genre unless I really had a problem with it. Im white and all I used to listen to was rap and hip hop, but only the good stuff. Im more opened minded now so I listen to a lot of different styles of music, which helps, me being a filmmaker and all. The only real music I actually hate, is like hardcore heavy metal and bands like Korn... I just can't listen to it, but I respect them as an art form. I don't know maybe it's just the way I grew up.

HDK, I had the same thought on SOUNDS OF SILENCE and really like that song. I also wondered about OBLA DI OBLA DA. Probably not everyone's favorite, but come on - if they want a bad Beatles song - they're saying it is worse than MR MOONBEAM or GOOD NIGHT??? I don't think so.
In fact, I would rather hear that song than something by FLOCK OF SEAGULLS or DEVO!
As for music genres, I'm not a fan of rap, extreme heavy metal or country, but like everything else (umm, except opera!). However, being a bad guitar player and a worse piano player, I have a tremendous amount of respect for anyone that performs, regardless whether I like it or not!
