I'm not a big Bond fan. I've seen maybe one of them all the way through, and countless others in scattered segments on TV. I'm a fan of the CONCEPT of Bond - the movies are typically letdowns in relation to the concept.

Casino Royale was freaking amazing. Really just spectacular. Well written, devilishly good Bond. Amazing action scenes (was that guy in the opening even HUMAN?!) and fantastic settings.

The only real Bond films worth seeing are:

Dr. No
From Russia With Love
Goldfinger
On Her Majesty's Secret Service

Outside of those there is not much to be had, of any value. And I consider myself the foremist connoisseur of Bond on this site. I know it all when it comes to this subject, so really, do see those four I mentioned, and then maybe, maybe:

Thunderball
Live and Let Die
The Spy Who Loved Me
License to Kill
Goldeneye

On Her Majesty's Secret Service was TERRIBLE!!! What are you thinking??? Lol. Otherwise, I agree.

I'll have to see it today. Casino Royale, I mean.

The opening scene (and first action scene) are worth the price of admission by themselves.

I am a die-hard Bond fan. I probably don't know as much as HDK, but personally I don't think that makes the fan. I actually enjoyed The World is Not Enough and Moonraker, possibly the worst Bond films. And I am TOTALLY PSYCHED for Bond tonight.

YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, it really does depend on the person, I guess the good thing is that there is variety enough so that someone can at least like a few of them.

*SPOLIERS*

Yes, Casino Royale is AWESOME!!!!!

It didn't even feel like your traditional bond film.

And it didn't have some stupid super villian with a large lazer trying to destroy the world. this Daniel Craig guy was the perfect choice for Bond, in fact I may have to say he is the BEST BOND E V E R!

I don't know, guys.

(Warning - spoilers ahead). It was very well-written. I'll give it that. But apart from that, I didn't like how it didn't follow the Bond formula. It was more about his life than the cars and the guns and the girls, and the criminals and the conflict that he faced seemed to fall secondary to that. I thought the ending was rushed. The fact that Vesper was blackmailed was a major twist, and I thought they could have presented that in a way that made more of an impact. It seemed like an afterthought to the fact the she was dead.

As much as it pains me to say this, I prefer the popcorn formula of classic Bond movies, and this one just didn't do it for me.

Josh, Josh, Josh. This movie is everything Bond should be. A badass.

the Bond Formula was tired, and they needed a change or risk Bond dying forever.

My friend compared it to Batman begins. They needed to change the formula, or Batman movies would forever suck and die.

We still had the cars, guns, and girls. But it was more about using your fists and bashing whatever available weapon you could find over the bad guys head, which made it totally awesome.

I've never been a Bond fan but I've been saying for a few months that this looks promising. PG-13 worries me, though.

Because this was supposed to be a 'hard' Bond, not the lame cartoon of the Brosnan and earlier films. PG-13 is clearly an effort to keep the teenage audience. A few reviews did mention that based on content the film seemed like it would have merited an R, though.

oh, don't worry about it. He kicks butt and takes names. It could have been an R movie, I suppose. No lame cartooniness at all.

they need a less dorky looking Bond...I don't even watch 007 movies, ubt this guy doesn't look smooth. I get moe of an inspector gadget vibe from him... or maybe it's just the ears.

Wow, all my posts are within minutes of each other. Being bored at work when its slow sucks.

I'm a huge bond fan, and this guy is probably my favorite. I don't see how you think he's dorky looking. Man, dorky is the last thing you should call anyone ripped like he is.

But, I liked this film progressively less. I guess when the two started falling in love or whatever, the dialogue just got corny IMO. Still, the best thing about this movie is the cinematography. It's just beautiful.

Whoa what do you mean it didn't follow the Bond formula!? Let me take a look at my checklist (spoilers, maybe):
Martini- check
Stunts defying laws of phsyics- check
Scantily clad women- check
Explosions- check
Villian with physical defect- check
Sidekick that's bald and doesn't speak- check
Betrayal from close friend- check
"The names Bond, James Bond"- check
Communists- X

Apart from the commies, this one was almost a 100%!
