Me? I am a LOTR fan to the death, but I felt the theatrical release of the Two Towers wasn't what it should have been. Then I got the Special Edition. HOLY COW! The movie was 10 times better. The additional scenes wrapped everything up much tighter, making it all the more interesting. it is longer, but you will enjoy it more. A must see.

DARN RIGHT! it was easily 10 times better! even the opening set a cool mood with the rope scene (i expected to see that SO MUCH in the short version) farimir was redeemed slightly from his state of huge jerk and is a little more towards the nice farimir in the book. the boromir flashbacks were great and really set up denethor well. EVERYTHING was GREAT! i suddenly realized in comparison i actually DIDN'T like the short version.
btw, does anyone sense a deleted scene in ROTK right between gandalf and company riding to sauraman's tower and pippin finding the palantir? it just dosn't make sense, if they were removing the bit about wormtounge throwing the palintir and gandalf speaking with sauraman they'd not have filmed everyone riding up to the tower. i think we get to see that in the extened rotk.
So here is the thing, i just got the super duper ultra special set with gullom and all that jazz. However, my DVD player is broken. Much sadness. Anyway, I was just wondering, is Sean Aston's short film on the special DVD's anywhere. I'm certian i saw it listed on the standard, but the specs don't include it in the special edition.

i have not yet stumbled across it on the extended one. i saw it on the other one (which i rented), very odd. cool though. the documentary on making it was five times longer than the movie itself was.

Titaniumdonut, I sensed a million scene cuts in ROTK. The one your talking about was a blow in the face for me. I wanted to shout "NOOOOOOOOO!" in the theater. Another thing I missed was the Mouth of Sauron. In the game you get to fight him but he is absent in the movie. Irritating. Anyways, back to topic, I loved the flashbacks to Boromir. I wished they kept that in to set up for Denethor in the third. Oh well, what's done is done.

I absolutely love the extended edition. Only thing I do miss, however, is the Sean Astin short. The regular 2-Disc set has "The Long and Short of It" and the making of short but the extended edition, to my surprise, doesn't.
WHAT?! There's Sean Bean flashbacks in the extended cut? Now I HAVE to watch all of it!
but Two Towers theatrical sucked ass.
