everybody must see this! its so weird, so bizarre, makes absolutely no sense whatsoever, so inspiring in such a weird way, im tellin ya, its absolutely brilliant! for those not in the know, its a soderberg film, before traffic and out of sight. and it stars soderberg in several different roles. its a truly bizarre film and it makes me want to go write something really creative...so go rent it!

Check out EL TOPO. Its super rare and I doubt you'll just be able to pick it up at Blockbuster. I ordered mine off ebay for like $20. Its definetely worth it if you're into surreal art films.

Jorodowsky (the director of El Topo) has made several other SURREAL weird films (i havn't seen them yet)
The Holy Mountain & Santa Sangre

He's supposedly coming out with another film this year, a sequel to El Topo, but word around the campfire its something different.

David Lynch too, his films are crazy.

Look around this website for a listing of lots of surreal strange films and information about them and their directors; http://www.wayney.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/

Terry Gilliam and Spike Jonze are my favorite bizarre filmmakers. And for a really good off-the-wall mind trip movie, I recommend Being John Malkovich. I was so utterly mind f***ed by the end of the movie that I stared blankly at the TV screen for a good amount of time during the credits, totally left speechless, disbelieving what I had just seen. It takes a special kind of movie to do that, especially to me.

ill have to look into that kyle, thanks. seriously though, you think those flicks are wierd? not only does the story of schizopolis not make sense, the dialogue doesnt either, for example: soderbergs character will all of the sudden start talking in japanese out of nowhere, or the dialogue is nothing but jiberish; jigsawpuzzle? beef diaper. aww man i just cant stop thinking about how out of this world this movie is...

and i love wierd movies, just because they are original and new. and i love spike jonze as well. the funny thing is is that soderberg is known for more mainstream stuff, not expiremental works such as those of lynch and jonze.

thats how I felt after Lost Highway. Now that is one of the weirdest (and best) films ever made. Big Grin

jarmusawa, don't forget that that Soderbergh made a name for himself with "sex, lies, and videotape" the movie that gave all the indy kids hope of making it big with no budget, and the kind of movie hollywood wouldn't have made at the time.

shizopolis didn't come out that much after that. it's just him playing around. he needed to relax because his films were being too serious (Kafka, the Underneath)

Why not go to the original one? Luis Bunuel's Un Chien Andalou. If you can find it, you're in for a real "wha?" fest.

Begotten was lame. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for the weird like I love my dead, stuffed cat; but seriously, Begotten blows. Maybe I just don't like the director, becuase I really hated Shadow of a Vampire. I mean, how can you possibly have a movie with Willam Dafoe and John Malkovich and still make it lame? I guess all it takes is to be that piss poor director.
As for El Topo, I've been waiting to see that forever, I wish they'd release a DVD or something, I don't want to pay $40 for a VHS.
