WARNING SPOILERS MAY FOLLOW FOR:
The Sixth Sense
Unbreakable
Signs
The Village

First off I would like to say that I think The Village was an excellent movie. I have heard some people saying that this same plot has been used in episodes of The Twilight Zone and The Outer Limits, however, even so the film was still powerful. I agree that the plot wasn't the hardest to figure out if you tried, but that's why you should just sit back and take it a piece at a time. Like Al said in the post THE VILLAGE just don't go in trying to guess the ending and all will be well.

Also about the "Theme" part of the topic. I was just wondering if anyone here has noticed any themes in M Night's films. Personally these are what I have gathered...

The Sixth Sense:
People don't want to let go. Wether it be a loved one passing away or some other event. We just don't like to let go of things we are used to in life. No one does, but of course we have to in order to move forward.

Unbreakable:
You don't have to see it to believe it. We can't see all the planets or stars with the naked eye. Or other things that we know exist, but cannot directly see or touch or well you get the point. Just because you don't think something can happen or doesn't exist don't just dismiss it. Think outside the box.

Signs:
Just because one bad thing happens you can't give up your how way of life. Even if it is losing someone extremely close to you.

The Village:
Similar to Signs. You can't run away from problems or "life" in general for that matter. The elders secluded themselves to get away from things such as murder and what found its way into their quiet homes? Murder.

Anyways it is late so maybe I am just rambling. Any thoughts?

Night,
Shunohaku

I agree that The Village was an excellent movie... it cant top unbrekable but it is tied up with signs for me. Like you said the story was kind of easy to figure out, but it was well done. I liked the way they showed what jealousy can do to a person ( even tho he was mentally handicapped ) its how people can really act if they get jealous enough. The acting was incredible... I think that Phoenix did an awesome job.

As for the theme I agree with you also... the movie is basically about how you cant run away, that bad things happen it is human nature and even if you try and suclude yourself from violence or tradgedy, it will undoubtly sitck its head in. I loved the use of the reds and yellow because they were diifrent... the cloaks seemed to really stand out and I liked that a lot. Im rambeling now too but I just thought I's comment about your comments lol because Im glad to see that someone else was as happy with the movie as I was.

I' little late out, nut The Village is kinda new here in europe.

I loved The Village, but I kinda figuret out that there must be more modern time outside the Village, when the elders started to talk about How it was before they moved into the forest.

It was really great movie and well filmed. I loved how they had made the movie without allmost no effects (they may have used effects to make lights and so on better).

I think there should be more movies like that!

I didn't think it was very good.... right up until the end, at which point my opinion changed. What I liked best about it was that I actually thought about it after leaving the cinema, which doesn't often happen.

Yeah I almost forgot about how much I liked this movie til I started thinking about it, its just a shame how people now a days want to go into a movie and watch blood splat all the time and hear people threatening to gut them like fish. Thats all well and good and I love movies like that, but The Village came with a diffrent brand of a thriller... it wasnt all scary, it wasa love story it was a drama it was comedic it had a lot of diffrent feelings mixed in and for some reason, at least for me, it made for an awesome movie. And I cant wait to see whats next from him.

I think The Village is the best film of 2004 by a long shot. There is an eloquence to M. Night Shyamalan's films that I don't find in most films today.

And Bryce Dallas Howard...what an excellent debut! She is an amazing actress and her character is what made the film superb to me.
