Ah Oui! I've been sensing a lil Canadian pride lately eh... (CP as I like to call it) and I've decided to take the initiative to recamending some great films from the "Great White North" eh... and giving you foreigners a chance to learn more aboot us Canadians and stuff eh... so here's the list I've got:

Strange Brew: Probably the greatest comedy film I've ever seen starring Rick Moranis and Dave Thomas as the famous Mackenzie Brothers and beer and stuff, real good one eh...

Canadian Bacon: The fact that this has John Candy in it makes it pure Canadian culture, but with Michael Moore involved its the comedy of his docs in a great US/Canada phony war (outdoes South Park Movie by far).

Goin' Down The Road: This little known film was well recieved upon its release back in 1970 as the Canadian Midnight Cowboy, a subtle independant film about two maritimers who head out to make er big in Toronto, but things don't quiet go as planned.

The Sweet Hereafter: Atom Egoyan's highly critically acclaimed story of a lawyer dealing with insurance claims after the crash of a school bus kills most of the town's children (pied piper inspired). Made stars out of Sarah Polley, Bruce Greenwood, and Ian Holm.

Slap Shot: Ok, maybe its not technically Canadian, but it's Canadian at heart as Paul Newman stars in the ultimate film about the fastest game on ice. Puttin' on the foil!

Crash: My personal favorite from Canadian director David Cronenberg, but any of his films is worth a view and I thin k they are all Canadian made.

Fubar: A great documentary of two mullet-dawnign beer drinking Canadian heroes living in Toronto, lots of Pilsner in this one, camping trips and good laughs.

Gross Misconduct: A great made for TV movie about the life and death of Canadian hockey player Brian "Spinner" Spenser.

Now those are the best ones I have to add, but I'm sure other people have more, just trying to open up a little more to the fatc that besides stealing your productions, Canada has given America alot of good films and talents over the years to enjoy

P.S. I didn't add my Canadian film to the list because I know somebody else will add it as the quintescential piece of Canadian Cinema Wink

The films of Guy Maddin have been getting a lot attention lately, and The Saddest Music in the World looks very interesting.
By the way, Ian Holm had already made a name for himself when he acted in The Sweet Hereafter.
