Okay, I'm a Paul W.S. Anderson fan. Mortal Kombat is my favorite movie of all time. Mortal Kombat is not the best, but my favorite, the one I can pop in at any time of day, any mood I'm in and enjoy. A guilty pleasure, if you will. It's too damn bad that Paul W.S. Anderson though is an idiot. He can't write good characters, or story, for that matter, worth a damn. (He tried to write an entirely new story while ripping off a lot from the comics, not cool.) Luckily, he can have pretty frickin' sweet fight scenes in his movies. Mortal Kombat was fight scene after fight scene after fight scene with just enough interesting story so you don't get saturated with watching people pummel each other. Makes sense, it was based off a fighting game. So it's not too much to ask that you see Predators fighting Aliens in a movie called Aliens vs. Predator, right? Wrong. Instead we get an entire hour of insanely stupid "experts" wondering around a 'tardley explained underground pyramid. Seriously, if I can figure out what's going on before these "top in their field" morons can, somethings horribly wrong. These humans are a waste and should've been "sacrificed" long before the first hour of the movie. Even with A/P folklore refrences, the humans are just a waste of time. Now granted, I'm a sucker nerd for this kind of stuff, when the Aliens and Predators finally get to square off, it's pretty friggin' cool. And sadly, that alone, will be enough for me to buy this when it's very very cheap; even with all the missed opportunities in the last forty minutes.

Now, as to why people suck. This could be Anderson's fault, but I'm sure even if done well people still might not go for it. Film's a friggin' art, use it as such. A human element truly was not needed in a movie called Alien vs. Predator. A talented person would make you care for either side then use the smallest of human, or whatever, element to explain (such as simple voice over or whatnot) what was going on. I would totally go for a movie that was just two hours of a Predator's mission to fight Aliens or whatever. I mean if Anderson was able to make you understand the Predator's intentions in the five minutes it was on screen in AVP what's to stop someone from watching that guy go at it for a longer time? I don't understand why an audience wouldn't go for something along those lines though. I mean we're talking about the same audience that stops on Animal Planet to watch lions hump each other. And that is why people suck. Oh well, I guess it's up to me make a truly good monster fight movie.

Thank you for reading my rant.

I loved the premise and the setting of the film, but the characters and dialogue ruined it. Its a film that wanted to be awesome but got destroyed by the direction. My main complaint about the thing was how he handled the predators. They looked like line backers marching around the temple and cared a little too much about what happened to the humans. Instead of being cunning and stealthy, they kinda shambled around the pyramid, got stabbed, helped out the humans, then ran from an explosion like bruce willis in die hard. Don't even get me started on the dialogue
Man: "What are those"
Woman: "they're whale bones"
what else could they have been? why did he even mention it? Meh.
I agree with Grimlock that it would have been much better without the people. It could have been awesome, maybe theyll get AVP2 right...

first of all i have to say that this is the greatest thread name I have ever seen on this site, like brilliant, i saw the title and wanted to ask if you have made any films that i can see I was so impressed, and then I was glad to see that while I really hate films like Mortal Kombat or AVP, you seem, to have good reasons to back up liking it etc... and while I hated the movies, i never felt any hate for you (ur in a prestigious group for that, trust me) because u like these movies. But i think we all have our guilty pleasures. for me its a film like Captain Ron, or The 3 Ninjas. I also have this thing where anytime The Shawshank Redemption comes on TV, I have to watch it, and I complain in agony as the dreadful commercials go on and on, yet I own it on DVD and hardly watch it, why is that? anyways thatnks for enlightening my existence Big Grin

i think having humans in the movie would have been fine, as long as they weren't stupid humans. both the first two movies were humans versus predator/alien. even the game is humans/predators/aliens. they just chose to make a joke out of humans in the movie.
