If I see it, I'll go to the matinee (cheaper), but the initial reviews (if you can believe them) say there is nothing new and it's average. I just didn't think the trailers showed me much.

I saw it last night. I liked it. It's not the best movie I've seen, but worth the money if you're looking for an action movie with some good effects.

I'd rate it higher than Wild Wild West and Men In Black II, but below the original MIB, using the Will Smith movie rating system. I'd say it's about on par with Independence Day.

Does anyone else miss the days when robot movies featured real robots? Don't get me wrong, the robot effects in I, Robot were well done, but no matter how good the computer effects are, nothing can beat the real thing.

Look at the movie Short Circuit. It was made in 1986, yet I would venture to say the robots in that movie seem more real to life than the ones in I, Robot.

I think when people have to actually sit down and design a working robot that must function and deal with real world physics, it creates a whole new level of believability.

Plus, I don't think you can beat the actual on set interaction between the robotic and human characters.

Obviously, if you want 10,000 robots fighting, you're going to need CG, but building a real machine wouldn't preclude the creation of identical looking CG counterparts.

Anyway, that is my take on modern robot movies.

I, Hated It.
This movie was like a cross between life at my high school and the XYZ Affair. IF you see this movie you might as well put Erberts on your Gerberts. End Transmission.

I thought the camerawork was pretty good in places. The script's quite cheesy though (although it's hardly surprising). I saw the trailer and thought "this looks crap", but it was actually better than I thought it would be.

[Potential Spoiler Alert]

What hampered the film in my opinion was the lack of a specific bad guy. I mean, none of them were evil because they all thought for the best.
