The trailer for Pride and Prejudice didn't really entice me, to say the least. I saw it last night, against my better judgement, and was totally blown away!
It started slow, and seemed to be about nothing, no conflict, nothing at stake, but by the end the story had been woven so well, and the characters developed so artfully that I was totally engrossed.
The cinematography was Godly. No other words for it. Simply unbelievable. The sound design and music also stood out as incredibly good. Acting was, of course, superb.
Marvelous old English settings. It's worth seeing for the locations alone!
It also painted an extremely vivid portrait of life in those times.
I expect nominations for Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Actress, Best Cinematography and Best Sound Editing, at least. I doubt it'll win much, cause it's not a flashy enough movie, sadly.

I would see this film, but the period in which it is set annoys the hell out of me. Those upper class 1800's British accents just get on my nerves after a while.

In my film studies class we were forced to watch the BBC five and a half hour epic all within two days. The newer one seems pretty good in the its only about 2.. 2 1/2 hours. But i tell you what. after the BBC Pride, King Kong was nothing.
Hahaha... it must be something about being Australian and already having a cool accent. To most Americans those accents are the epitome of elegance and coolness.
No seriously, it didn't feel at all long. Well worth seeing. Remember, you must make it through the first little bit without giving up on what seems like a plotless, foolish film. It gets good suddenly.
