my name is zach, im kinda new to the forums, but have been on student films for about a year. recently i saw a trailer for the movie Garden State. It's not a big movie, so you'll have to look for it. It comes out this week in select theatres. Anyway, this trailer i feel has changed my life. It gives a feeling to live a better life, let go, and stop worrying. Im sure now that filmaking is what i want to pursue. With only a year left of highschool, i dont want to waste time. If anyone who hasnt interpreted this post as gay and weird, i would love to learn about what a good first camera is. GL2? anyway, thanks a bunch. check out the trailer and email me if you were as deeply impacted as me by the trailer (the music does half of it)

Isn't everything? Anyways I think most people who have seen this trailer have been affected by it as there has been a pretty big cult following for the trailer alone.

I saw this film at a preview screening in Atlanta on July 12th. I must say the most interesting part of watching the film for me was seeing all the clips from the trailer in context. The movie was very good though. Very fresh and very funny. It was nice to see subtle humor for once. And it worked so well. A genuine film from many aspects, but amazing at others. The cinematography -specifically composition wise - was awesome. The screenplay was also fantastic.
Great film, incredibly realistic. I wouldve liked to see more Ian Holm though. Everyone did a great job acting though.
I also got to meet Zach Braff after the movie, which was cool. That might have swayed my opinion of the movie more than most people who see it in theatres, but I dont care. I enjoyed the movie.
EVERYONE MUST GO SEE IT!

I saw this at The Grove in Beverly Hills the first Friday it was released. Hands down it was the best movie I've seen this summer.
==How the movie opens==
[This doesn't spoil much, but it might get you interested enough to watch it.]
The movie opens up with an emotionless Zach Braff in an alarmingly spotless bedroom. The phone rings and he doesn't pick it up. His dad begins to leave a message almost pleading with Zach to pick up and talk to him. His dad's call concludes with a very cold, "your mom died this morning. at least come for the funeral."
======
And somehow this turns into a romantic story. Brilliance.

I saw this a few days ago and really liked it. It has almost no plot, but the environments are so rich and interesting that I didn't care. Also, Natalie Portman is very easy to crush on in this film. But, yeah, music and cinematography really made this film.
My fanboy self finally got to see this today, and I was pleased. I haven't seen too many limited release movies that I'd actually own, but this is definately one of them. I'd like to think there was a plot, mostly just finding out what Braff's character was all about. But, I did like how almost every character had a little mystery them. I told my friends that if my first movie isn't as good as Garden State that they're free to end my life. I only say that because Braff used so many ideas I wanted to put into a movie, and I can't decide if that's me being a fanboy or just justifying my fanboydom.
This film really is great. So subtle, breaks a few "movie" rules and yet still has such a great, real fel to it. Beautiful film. Made me wanna cry (but all that came out was one lonley tear my wife caught in a paper cup) R. Michael

Nothing big, just a few scenes that did'nt further the plot, but were great just the same. (His friends mom for example served no purpose, unless like me you can read in deep enough that he longed for that kind of relationship with his mom) I loved it alkl though, wouldnt have cut a ting R. Michael

i thought the film had some great moments, also had many that were overly cheesy and predictable. i found it enjoyable but a bit heavy handed at times. anyone else agree??
