Actually, I understand how other people MIGHT like Napoleon, but... like someone else said, it just felt too forced. They seemed to rely on the appearance of the characters far too much for laughs. Also like someone else also said, I only laughed once or twice myself. And both times, they were at moments no one else thought funny... which was weird honestly. I think the reason the girls found it funny was because they didn't want to admit that they had rented a bad movie. It might have allowed them to "lose face". Their laughter seemed forced. Anywho, enough about my opinions about that movie. That wasn't my goal with the topic. Sorry guys.

This has been one of the worst years for quality films in recent times.
The best that were released in 2004 (incomplete list, I'm sure):
Maria Full of Grace Hero (this shouldn't even count, since it was available at least a year ago) Spider-Man 2 The Life Aquatic Kill Bill Vol. 2 (overrated but still well done) Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence
Troy was a total disaster. I didn't get to see The Machinist, Motorcycle Diaries, or The Sea Inside, all of which I was interested in.
Hollywood has been putting out garbage lately, which is why I went to the theater less than 10 times in 2004. Since summer, I think I only went twice (Maria Full of Grace in some time around September, and Life Aquatic in January 05).

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, I Heart Huckabee's, Collateral
I thought Napoleon Dynamite was alright, but overrated. The funniest part to me was the Rex Kwon-Do commercial when he says, "...and the wisdom OF A MAN!" over the footage of him putting someone in a headlock... I thought right then, "Well, I'm sure there'll be something in the movie that'll make me laugh harder than that," but there really wasn't.
I thought Garden State was kinda' overrated too. Zach Braff did a great job for his first film, but it's exactly that... "for his first film." It's not like Donnie Darko, where you find out that's Richard Kelly's first film and it kind of catches you by surprise. I don't know, I just think there was something kind of off about Garden State... maybe it was too whiny? I don't know. But I think Braff will get better as he goes on... and even my friends who loved the movie agree with me that the soundtrack is better.

I liked Warriors, a film made in spain-western europe, about the conflict in Kosovo. doubtful a lot of you have seen it. It was okay, come over-the-top moments, but its foreign, give em a break. And then small-pox. that fake documentary, which could pass as real to the unknowing veiwer. K-19 widowmaker was good, I think that was like early '04, maybe late '03. cant remember.
