gave this movie a whirl last night after my roomate insisted i see it...

this movie is pretty amazing. if you just take the visual aspect of it, the film is increadable. though, i really enjoyed the story with all it's twists. the fight scenes in the movie are pretty top notch as well. check this one out in the true french audio as well, the english dub isn't all that great. overall a very splendid film.

Funny that you mentioned the "top notch" fighting scenes for they were the one thing that bugged me the most about this movie. Mind you, I liked this movie but, the fight scenes were cut too Hollywood style. Maybe I was expecting too much from the French, but the cuts were too fast with not enough pay off. They probably would've been better off sending the footage to a Hong Kong editor and then we would've gotten some kickass Shaolin Brotherhood of the Wolf thing going on.

Well in all fairness the quick cuts isnt a "Hollywood" thing but rather a technique Hollywood stole from the Brits, who stole from the French, who stole from Asian cinema.

I understand the benefits of watching a fight in a wide master and seeing the gracer and effort put into the coreography. I also know i hate movies that go to far like "Bulletproof Monk" and even cut around punch impacts but I like the fights in Brotherhood styalistically. The sound mix is what really made it work but cant be appreciated unless you saw it in the theater (like myself) or have surround sound at home. Each hit was like a cannon blast. It made the cutting to slo mo make alot more sense.

I loved the movie actually and was pleasently surprised by the strong story to match the visuals. Im still trying to find an earlier film by the same director and aslo starring Mark Dacoscos titled "Crying Freeman" and based on a sick animie by the ame name.

If you havent seen "Brotherhood" check it out and watch it in french, the english dub does suck.

I'll watch anything with Emilie Dequenne. She totally won me over in Rosetta.

Ughhhhhh.......... I hated this movie, and I'm a big Mark Dicascos fan (I know, I know). The cinematography was excellent, but that was it. The effects looked crappy on the big screen, and man did it drag. I agree the editing of the fight scenes was attrocious.

I am also a big Mark Dacascos fan, and i would say that Only the Strong is probably one of my favorite movies too. But about Brotherhood though. I have studied martial arts for the better part of my life (17) and before i got into filmaking and acting and directing the main thing that intrigued me about a movie was its fight scenes. It was movies like Brotherhood that could bridge good movie with good fighting. And I can see that by when some of you say you hate all the cut shots that your not really watching a movie but analyzing it. When I was watching Brotherhood for the first time I wasn't saying man I don't like these cut shot fight scenes I was saying man Mark knows how to fight this is awesome. If you want to talk bad Mark Dacascos fight scenes look at Cradle to the Grave. The movie had two of the greatest martial artist to ever grace the screen go head to head but split the final fight scene between DMX and the other two chicks fighting. When you have people like Jet and Mark fighting, shoot, give them their own last part of the movie to fight.
