I SAW THIS MOVIE TODAY...IT WAS PRETTY AWESOME. I PREFERED THE 1ST HALF AT THE BOOT CAMP MORE PARTICULARLY....THE BOOT CAMP INSTRUCTOR DRILL OFFICER GUY WAS INSANE...MY FAVORITE SCENE WAS WHEN THAT GUY HAD THE GUN IN THE BATHROOM...AND I DON'T WANT TO RUIN THE SCENE...BUT I FELT IT WAS VERY DRAMATIC AND AWESOME...AND WHAT HAPPENED I TOTALLY DIDN'T EXPECT...

FUK...I WANNA TALK ABOUT THIS SCNE BAD...SO DON'T READ AHEAD IF YOU PLAN ON SEEING THE MOVIE.

ok...my caps locks was being janky...its fixed now..

but yeah..i really liked the scene where that guy kills the drill instructor then himself...it was really well done and acted...i think the reason it made and inpact on me is because i wasn't expecing him to shoot the drill instructor...plus it was weird cause...you can feel that guys pain....he was always fuking up and then that one night everyone beat him up...i felt for him....i would be that guy in camp...except i'm not "tubby"...but thats how i am....i hate when people push me, mentally.

but yeah...i liked it cause the drill instructor is like yelling at the guy saying he's stupid for being awake in the middle of the night with the gun in the bathroom and shi t...and then all of a sudden he shoots the guy...and its like...this whole part of the movie the drill guy is total bad ass and in charge...he's like god....but then he is shot and its like, whoa...and it wasn't anything heroic...he just gets blasted. then the guy kills himself...really affected me or something...i loved that scene.

so...anyone got any opinions on the film?

. it was a crying shame ermey and d'onofrio didnt get best supporting actor nods.

they should've gotten nominated and won...more on ermey.

matter of fact they, academy, should of made an ew category just for ermey, "Scariest Foul Mouthed Motherfuker on Screen"

yeah, the movie was awesome...i liked that one guy, was his name "animal"? well he had a big machine gun ans wouldn't stop shooting all the times Cowboy would be like, "Cease fire until I say so!" so then the sniper would shoot one of the wounded guys and animal would start shooting...that was funny

infact even i just saw de film a few days back, and ya the first half was pretty mindblowing, Vincent D'Onofrio was brilliant, esp the facial change that took place in him, though i'd heard so much about the movie that i guess i expected too much from it.....but ya, kubricks paradoxical use of music was beautifull !!

i am glad to hear people are discovering Stanley Kubrick.

watching a Kubrick film for the first time is a memorable feeling. it all has to do with that first reaction you get when you see the images that he places before your eyes.

it's raw talent at its best.

if interested in other films to watch of his that will turn you on your ass, let me know. i can mention a few with such power as Full Metal Jacket.

well, if you liked FMJ, try A Clockwork Orange or The Shining--they are also a trip and a half.

i discovered kubrick in december...i've only seen clockwork orange, 2001, full metal, and the shining.

out of all them so far full metal is my favorite, followed by 2001, shining, then clockwork.

i really liked 2001 and clockword cause after they were over i just sorta sat there 4 a moment thinking to myself, "what the fuk just happened?" and i love movies that do that to ya...same thing happened to me when the drill sarge got shot in full metal...at first i thought maybe it was a dream sequence....but it wasn't and i was like..."whoa" i totally didn't see that one coming. crazy and desturbing scene

For the record Kubrik77_is_a_moron IS A MORON, and his posts will be deleted. Dont step onto a site like this, and start bashing other settled members. There are other boards for that.

I love kubrick, but I am not particularly partial to FMJ. While I can appreciate Kubrick's artistry; I have problems with the overall film.

As far as Vietnam films go, it can't hold water to Platoon, or Apocalypse Now, but i honestly don't think it's meant as a Vietnam film; more of a film about teh veneer of society, and chaos, etc.
But even as a film like that, I think the rift between bootcamp and the war takes too much away from the emotions and pacing for it to work.

Oh, yeah. The first five minutes, with Ermey, is the funniest moment I've ever scene in a film.

Macht, you have to see Dr. Strangelove! That movie is by far the best. It's thought provoking and hilarious at the same time, it also looks great! Go out and rent/buy it right now.

Full Metal Jacket.
I keep meaning to rent it but never get round to it.

I've only seen a couple of Kubricks films but "Spartacus" would be my favourite. It was a great film.

do it then! stop forgetting. i forgot to see 2001 for a long time and then kub died and i realized after watching it that i would never get to appreciate his films while he was alive. one of the biggest mistakes of my life. see fmj.

I think the rating system is retarded.I'm able to goto Hollywood video and rent whatever thats rated R (when Im only 16) and they don't care. But then you can't get into a rated R film. It's stupid.
