We Were Soldiers was O.K in my opinion, a bit too Hollywood for me. Thin Red Line is probably my favorite. Enemy at the Gates is always a fun watch (cause snipering is kickass), but aesthetically, I think it could have been better.
A great (old) war movie to watch is Johnny Got His Gun (yes, I consider that a war movie). Every political leader in every country should be forced watch this.
Is anyone else tired of seeing Michael Madsen in Tarantino's movies?
That's one thing that bothers me about tarantino. I mean, he does use some strange casts, and likes to bring back old washed up stars. But then he just keeps using them over and over. I want to see somebody new!
Oh well. I guess a lot of directors do the same thing. I like Michael Madsen, but he's always the same "i'm a hardass that nobody can touch" in every movie.
huckabees is the best film to have come out in awile.
michael madsen was good in Tarantino's two movies, but he sucks in every other thing I've seen him in. I saw a bit of that made for TV crap called "Frankenstein" (Which was beyond terrible) and he does a terrible job acting, just the facial expressions he does are way over the top and stupid, considering he makes a different expression for every word he says

It's hard to decide whether the the best war film would be the most realistic depiction or the one that best grasps the true horrors and feelings. I think Platoon is good cause Stone himself is a vet, so what am I supposed to call him a liar? Saving Private Ryan was really realistic, but just as big a piece of crap as every other Spielberg film (including Schindler's List). Like every Spielberg film they involve unbelievable feats (in this case a retelling of the Alamo as a WW2 plot), and a one sided sentimental view on important events. I also like Das Boot cause it gets you cheering for the other side, somethign Spielberg could never dream of doing. I like Thin Red Line and Apocalypse Now cause they seem to geta grasp on the horrors of war. One not many have seen (if you consider it a war film) but a personal favorite is Birdy, with Nick Cage and Mathew Modine. It covers two friends boh before and after the war and how they change.

why do you say Black Hawk Down sucked. It was really a great movie. I liked the scene with the delta snipers and Mike Durant, the pilot, because according to Mike Durant, it was extremely accurate. We Were Soldiers sucked, but it portrays the desperation, and stupidity, of the Ia Drang campaign. I know you will I am retarded, but platoon was not that great, except will dafoe. Everything was over dramatic, but moving. I think if the toned down the Tom Berenger character, it would be terrific. Okay, but way over-rated. Three Kings was excellent, I own it, and It will forever be a favorite. And yes, it very much so classifies as a war movie.
-Still the question remains, any new ones Were talking past five years. Tears of the Sun was way too gung-ho, but I liked how they emphasized on the atrocities that are going on in Africa. But way too shoot 'em up. I will agree on that.

what are you talking about!, alamo with ww2 plot? Things like that happen all the time. The entire battle for Bastogne, Belgium 1944-1945, was an alamo scenario. The Americans were surrounded in the city, and with tons of courage and low supplies, they still whooped 'em. -with a little tank support- Private Ryan and Schindlers List far surpassed anything that Spielberg had previously done. Shame Shame.
