Well it isnt much, but its cool to see their making it just the same. I had been holding out hope for a Predator 3 as rumors had Arnie returning but this could actually help its chances (or kill it)

Im curious if they are adding the human factor or not, but it looks so given the "Whomever wins.... we loose" tagline. Anyway give it a gander. Like i said, not much.

The movie doesn't even come out for another year and all I hear are these bad script reviews and how this could kill both series. I hope there wrong but the story seems pretty bad and that's not considering they are not bring back any cast. I hear ALien 4 is suppose to be forgotten as well.

What does Studentfilms.com mean to you?

I think it all boils down to how easily amused you are. I like the Alien and Predators series, but am not a big enough fan to be easily offended by this. Also, this is being directed by Paul Anderson, so if you have something against Resident Evil or Mortal Kombat, you're probably gonna hate this. Otherwise, I'm just looking forward to some Predators kicking some Alien ass. Oh yeah, and it's going to be PG-13.

no chance itll be pg13. R rated movies have been making a pretty big comeback...the whole pg13 fad seems to be fading. that, and how the heck do u make a pg13 AVP movie? heh. its like making a PG Nightmare on Elm Street flick. just not happening. my thoughts: itll be fun, stupid, and quickly forgotten. heres hoping for the fun part :P

PG-13 is NOT dying out dude....its still out there and its not going away. They get away with saying "shît" "fück" dirty sex jokes, nudity, violence, explosions, pretty girls, fast cars, talking pies, and Queen Latifah.

It'll never stop.

More movies need to go R.......its almost like they're TRYING to be R, but fail and be PG-13.

PLus they can say "shît" now in PG movies. What is this world coming to?

The rating thing is quite obvious. In PG-13 movies you can now say "fvck" if it's not actually talking about sex, and you're only allowed one. The use of "s hit" in a PG movie is usually there to get the PG rating, why, so they can sell more tickets by making the parents buy them (parents being more likely to buy tickets for themselves for a PG movie rather than G.)
If my memory serves me right, AVP will be PG-13. How do you do it? Simple, make it an action movie. If blood is spilled it will be green acidic Alien blood. There will probably not be anymore skinned alive Marines or scenes of massacres past. But still, Aliens fighting Predators, how cool is that, excessive blood aside? That, and thanks to Mortal Kombat, I'm a Paul Anderson fan, so it'll at least be some fun. w00t!

Dude, this is like if Freddy vs. Jason was PG-13.

HOW WOULD THAT WORK??!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!

Both these characters/monsters come from VIOLENT ASSED movies.........GOOD violence is in R movies.

Sorry to say this but the studio probablly wont release it if it isnt PG-13. Especially if they already stated it will be.

Its easy enough to pull off (as stated, no skinned Marines and only one "F" bomb) but its a business decision. An "R" rating alienates (alien pun intended) the majority of your target audience which is teens 13 to 16.

Studies show teens have the greatest amounts of expendable income of any demographic. PG-13 guarantees they show.

Now I know everyone says "They're going to see it anyway." and your right, but how? Some will get an older person to purchase tickets but most would buy tickets to another movie and see it instead. For those who dont know the studios essentially rent theater space and recive the majority of the box office take. Loosing revenue like that to another "PG-13" movie that people arent even seeing burns them to no end.

This is why you are seeing a flood of PG-13 action movies. But fret not. Eli Roth, writer/director of "Cabin Fever" joined forces with Greenstreet Films to form a Horror production company called "Raw Nerve". Their goal is to release "3 to 5 low budget, Hard R or NC-17 Horror films a year." The blood will continue to flow even if outside mainstream Hollywood.

I'm going to have to disagree with you on this one, Tizz Smile Firstly, although there are certainly a handful of "R" wannabees, that are really pg-13 fluff, R rated flicks are starting to see a major comeback. As far as gambles are concerned ticketwise...look at T3...HUGE budget...and I was constantly having a debate with my buddy whether it was gonna be R or PG-13 up until the second the rating was released. I bet on R Smile And here's my reasoning: when you're dealing with a new film that introduces new characters to the public, or even a sequel to a film that didn't NEED an R rating, you end up with the studio pushing for PG-13, just for the sake of ticket sales. But when it comes to films that have established "R" rated pasts, I don't think that decision comes easily. You have to remember that the age demographic for Aliens vs. Predator isn't mainly kids...the fans of the series are mostly adults, and the execs know this. Same goes for Freddy vs. Jason. Think about it...there's a film that could have banked even more than it did (which isn't saying much...it did phenomenally at the box office) if it had a PG-13 rating, but the powers that be KNEW they were dealing with a film that would A) suffer if they toned it down, B) not gain that much because their target audience was already well past their teens. Same goes for Aliens and Predator. This is a movie designed for the 20 to 30 something year olds. And what about the 15-20 year olds? They have their ways of getting tickets, and thats just a fact. It's the same reason T3, Matrix, and Freddy vs. Jason all went R...the target demographic was large enough to warrant the rating and still make a large dent at the box office. PLUS...who's going to want to see a wussed out PG-13 Aliens OR Predator??? C'mon, folks. You're talking about two franchises that are predicated on hard violence and gore. Just the design of the Alien is strong enough to suggest an R rating. It's scary. Phallic even. The MPAA is gonna say "hey, it looked like a penis in 1979, and it looks like a penis today. R." And let's not even get into how the Predators unmasked look somewhat vaginal...hehe. The combination makes one think...hehe. Bottom line: I'm willing to wager that AvP will be R. Everything points to it. Oh, and for what it's worth...Cabin Fever kinda blew big time, and seeing another 5 movies a year from Eli Roth doesn't exactly excite me, no matter how "R" they are...hehe. Just my 2 cents.

Im not saying i want it to be PG-13, i would much rather see it R but there have been reports that the studio is going for PG-13. Some asked why, i gave my thoughts. Just playing Devils advocate.

I agree with your train of thought entirley. Chances are good alot of fans of both franchises have kids in that demographic and would simply take them to the movies with them. But lets face it, studios have a history off making the most hhorrible decisions imaginable (Look at the studios taking Ann Rices "Queen of the Damned" and creating a whole new storyline despite her efforts to stop them. "Interview" was a huge success and followed the book, "Queen" as a novel did fantastcly well, yet the studio felt it needed to be geared toward a younger audience.

If they are smart they wont worry so much about the R rating, but if the past is any indication of the future... Hollywood aint smart.

LOL. Well, my approach certainly would have been cerebral. I mean, face it. Aliens are very feminine. Even the males are run by one badass Queen. And the Predators? Buncha pussies that are trying to make up for their intelligence with their masculenity. It's almost like a role reversal. Does it make sense? No. But if I were David Cronenberg, it wouldn't matter... Wink And you're right Tizz, studios are foolish and retarded. For all we know, they'll drop the ball on this one and make it a weak kiddie romp. Lets hope logic points them in the proper direction though Smile

sometimes i dont even bother to see a movie if its not 'R' and I know it should be, (horrible example but) scary movie 3 is pg-13 and you wont be able to drag me into that... if it was R.. maybe. if two movies get so-so reviews, and one is R and the other is PG13... I'd choose the R one regardless (kill bill has given me mixed results from people, but i'm going to see it this week [i know i'm late!] because at least its by Quentin and its R, if it was pg13 FORGET IT) i know many people who are the same way. i'm sure the 'prefer mainly R films' crowd is probably smaller than the pg-13 teenyboppers crowd, but.. they arent widening their profit margin just because they make it pg13, they are actually shifting it, gaining some, but losing others.. basically turning my feelings toward the movie to: 'ehhh maybe it'll come out on HBO, if not... who cares its pg-13 anyway' Bottom line, i HATE censorship, especially when its for profit margins...HATE IT.

"Queen of the Damned" (the novel) wasnt a bunch of herion chique, model esque vampires livin the "rock n roll" lifestyle.

Not Ann Rices strongest novel but a heck of alot better than the POS movie based on it. Poor Alyiah... what a way to go.
