Actually, there were quite a few wealthy painters and composers. DaVinci and Michaelangelo, for example, were very wealthy. Back in their day, if you wanted to pay for nice oils to paint with and nicer canvases (canvasi?) to paint on, you had to be a man with plenty of money and liesure time. Beethoven and Mozart weren't too poor themselves if I remember correctly. I mean where the hell would these bums get their pianos anyway. But think of the "industry" as this... The Criterion Collection of DVDs. These are the guys who put out high quality transfers from artists like Brakhage and Kurosawa, but at the same time, they also publish the likes of Armageddon. What the hell? Well, they've come out and said that this stuff ain't cheap. They have to let out those "blockbusters" to pay for the Kurosawas et al. And that's the base line of how Hollywood works, make crap that sells, to pay for some real art. The only problem, producers are greedy (and kinda stupid) and want to see movies that they can understand and make them a ****-ton of money. If there's any justice in this crazy existance we're all doomed to live in, I, Robot will quickly be forgotten, but, Dark City won't. -Elliott

i recon we should all get together and start our own comunist filmaking nation. at least we would all be artistically satisfied, and making a living at the same time. i think we should ivade a part of some exotic nation, what do you think???

Yeah, those silly Canadians won't miss it. In all seriousness, this is probably already being done by someone somewhere, and if it's not it should be. I've talked about doing it before in idle chat with friends before, but that'll probably not lead anywhere. If this were done at a larger scale it would actually work, to an extent. In essence that means we all become producer to each other's work. That'd mean we'd all have to be cool and let everyone do their thing or you know repeat Hollywood's mistakes. -Elliott

Hey Kyle! Your plan is exactly what I'm going to do. I'm going to do whatever anybody tells me, then by the time I'm famous, I can say, bye-bye, and do what I want. And by then, so many people will owe me favors . . . all the pieces are coming together . . . rests fingertips together in front of his face.
