Hells yes, as a film freak, this is one of my favorite times of the year. ALthough I'm a bit saddened by the fact I havent seen 95% of the nominated films this year (combined effort of not having anyone to see them with and the ****ing MPAA) I'm still psyched. But I'm also a bit saddened by the fact some movies got the shaft where they deserved recognition. Like Spike Jonze not getting nominated for Best Director or Lord of the Rings getting nominated for Best Picture despite the fact that it (and Peter Jackson) win't win untill the third. I was wondering what other people thought of this years picks?

yes, Adaptation definately should have gotten more nominations beside its four. Nick Cage probably isn't going to win best actor over the likes of Daniel Day Lewis and Jack Nicholson, and even though it definately should win Best Adapted Screenplay (Come on, people. Adapt -ation!) they'll probably give it to Chicago or some crap like that. (Sorry, I'm still upset over The Royal Tenenbaums not winning their one screenplay nomination last year. The Academy could have at least thrown them that.) If they get Chris Cooper to win Best Supporting Actor, I'll be happy.

On a different note, I am psyched to see that Bowling for Columbine is the one real lock of the night. His next book can say "Academy Award Documentarian Michael Moore". That would be cool. Also, I'm surprised that Comedian with Jerry Seinfeld didn't get a nomination. Ususally if a documentary gets some form of a wide release (documentary-wise) then they give it a nomination just for that. It must have really turned them off or something.

And Thomas, I saw that you gave Poker Night (another) good review. You rock.

Steve Martin did a great job. He kept me laughing every time he opened his mouth.

Well, I was wrong this year. I only got 9 catagories guessed right. I guess I need to see movies before betting on them. But I'm happy over most of the choices..except Original Song. That was completly unncessasary, giving Eminem and Oscar. He doesn't deserve it!!!!! That and Adapted Screenplay...

Mark, I totally agree. Steve Martin needs to host every year.

And Alan, you keep making them, I'll keep watching them.

Eminem doesn't desearve it? i admit i hate eminems music he wrote the song didnt he? then why wouldnt he desearve it? i mean i don't like denzel washington but that doesnt meen he didnt "desearve" the oscar last year.

I admit i didnt think Chicago was best picture. but i wont go as far to say it didnt "desearve" it. now maybe if it was like orange county or somthing i would say so. but when it comes down to songs almost anything can go. I meen even south park's "Blame Canada" was nominated a few years ago. Do you think it "deserved" to be even nominated? i dont know.

I found the oscars very boring...and the only fair award was for best cinematography to the late, great Conrad L. Hall.

other than that, i was only happy that two towers barely won anything because it was not too good of a movie.

I picked Eminem to win in that category. The song is catchy and the Academy likes to pretend that it's "hip" in order to get the young kids watching. It's a good move.

And by the way, yes, South Park definately deserved a nomination for Blame Canada. That song was great. In fact, that whole movie was great. I wrote a thesis on that movie recently, and I personally think that it should have been nominated for best original screenplay and best animated film. Yeah, you heard me... (And note to anyone who's thinking of writing a paper on the South Park movie: credible secondary sources are very hard to come by.)

And as far as Denzel deserving his award last year, I really doubt it. He wasn't even the main character of the movie. He should have been up for best supporting actor...and I don't think that he even deserved that. Training Day was garbage.

And don't get me started on Forrest Gump beating out The Shawshank Redemption back in 1994...

The only reason South Park wasnt nominated for Animated Feature is...the catagory didn't exist. Its a fairly new one (and by that, I mean they started it last year, a shame considering all the great animated films that came out in the past). Its only winners so far are Shrek (HILLARIOUS) and Spirited Away (creepy looking Japani-crap).

"Blame Canada" rules...the Academy nominated it because it was the only clean (well, mostly clean) song in the whole movie. Can you say..."Uncle ****a"?!

"Uncle ****a" would have made a great nomination. I would pay to hear that fart solo performed on the Academy Awards.

I agree with whoever said Training Day was garbage. Although I didnt hate the film that much, it wasnt worthy of best actor. Russel shoulda won back to back.
The Shawshank Redemption (in my opinion) is a better film than Forrest Gump. It should have won Best Film, but Tom Hanks and Robert Zemeckis can keep their awards.
I thought Steve Martin was great. ALthough, next year I'd like to see Robin Williams. Or maybe the two of them should pair up and do it together. Throw in Billy Cristal as well.
I thought Blame Canada was a pretty cool song, and the movie sure was funny. Personally I liked the La Resistance Medley song a tad better.
Its a shame the Best Animated Film award hasnt been around for that long. I sure wouldve like to seen the Lion King get another statue. Oh well.
As for this years winners, I cant really say, cause most of the films havent been out here in Australia yet, or didnt come to my little town. Ill keep my opinions to myself until then.
