If it hadn't been for the lousy reviews The Forgotten received, I'd have seen it ages ago in theaters. I just watched it last night and was pleasantly surprised by it! The ending felt a little lame, the alternate ending was a little better, but I couldn't think of a good ending either... lol
The story was a bit confusing, and was either not totally explained, or had some holes in it.
In general, ending aside, I thought it was a fantastic movie. The suspense was terrific, the effects, especially the car crash and the NSA agent and NYPD cop being pulled into the air were totally shocking and more believable than any similar effects I've ever seen.
There were some good "making of" features on the DVD which showed how they did the fantastic effects. They used some really clever techniques, like taping the car crash in reverse.
What did everyone else think of this movie?? I'd like to know if it was just me who enjoyed it

The alternate ending was very similar. Instead of the alien guy holding her up in the air and removing her first memory of Sam, she came running up to a door into his room (very matrix like) in the middle of that warehouse. And there he was, standing at his dresser, and she kept called him but he didn't hear, and she tried to run into the room but whenever she passed the threshold she got zapped and thrown back. And while she kept desperately trying to crawl across the threshold while being electrocuted the alien stood there and calmly asked her over and over to remember different things about Sam (what was his favorite ice cream flavor? what was his favorite sport? etc), and each time she remembered the memory was erased. The alien told her that this was an experiment, and Sam was living in some sort of dream world, where he believed everything was still normal, and his mother was downstairs making him chicken noodle soup. And then it went pretty much like before, she suddenly fell to the floor, seemingly half dead, didn't remember the boy, and then whispered "I had life inside me. his name was Sam," just like before. But the freaky guy didn't get sucked into the sky, he just walked away. And when she found Sam at the park, he was standing there in the background watching.
very odd.

Man did I hate that movie. Sorry, but it's true. I remember going to the theater, hoping because it might be good, looked "supernatural". The first time someone said, "What like Alien abduction?" I just lost it. It was like a two hour, poorly written X-Files episode to me with TERRIBLE SFX! People being sucked into the sky could look cool, but a kid with affter efects could pull off what they did, and the Alien face at the end?? WTF? The only thing i liked was the shot of the car slamming into them from the side street. Very creative and a much needed scare at that moment. Otherwise... two Tizzy thunbs down... R. Michael

Interesting take Tizzy. The face at the end WAS terrible (as was the "eye" in the sky, or whatever that was). In fact, I wish that guy had never spoken, it would have been freakier that way. I can see your point on the story-line too. But I still think the flying into the sky effect was really good

I didn't think it was that great either, but when I saw it in the theaters, the car crash scared the hell out of me, so props to them on that. Like Tizzy said, some of the vfx were horrible and I thought it could have been edited a little bit.
Ugh that was an awful movie... I've never walked out on a film EVER because I always want to give the filmmaker the benefit of the doubt that maybe its about to get better... but this one just reeked from start to finish. I think the meeting went something like "hey we have this cool special effect where we yank people up into the air.. can we have a script by friday?"

I find it fascinating that people don't like it this much! I wondered why it had such bad reviews, and figured you guys might agree with me, but it seems I am mostly an anomaly here
the writer was interviewed on the DVD and said he based it around a dream he had in which a husband and wife were looking at a photograph and their son faded away before their eyes.

The Forgotten was all right, it started off strong, but then it slowed a bit, at which point me and my friend left the theatre, so I never actually saw the ending, but from what hear it wasn't the greatest.
i went to the movie with my gf. near the end of it, the audience and us were practically laughing at it. when hte credits came, i litterly stood up and said, "thats it, im outa here!"
i cant believe how bad that was.

the movie was alright. too many holes, not enough explanation at all i don't think. who were the aliens? why were they doing this experiment? and i went to the bathroom at one point, when i came back everyone was like daaang that was an awesome car crash, so i guess i missed the best part. bummer. julianne moore is pretty hott though.
