i just finished watching both of these back to back... yeah, i'm crazy. anyway, i really enjoy both of them. the story of the first one is much better than M:I2, however i believe john woo directed a better film than de palma. there's just something about woo's style that i love wheather it be his excessive use of action or the sheer over-the-top-ness of it. anyway, just wondering if anyone else agree's or dissagrees. (and if you haven't seen either of these, you need to check em out)

I think john woo is a horrible director. Or as Homer Simpson quoted, "No miss-directed woo...which is any john woo film"

I know everyone can be a critic here but I've heard more people bash M:I-2 anytime I mention it, that I can remember. It's one of my favorites. How could you not enjoy it. The story's simple, the action is amazing and it throws in a cliche love story that's oddly interesting. The first was all right, but the second was much better. And don't put down John Woo man. See Face/Off and Hard Boiled first. He's worked hard to get to where he is.

the best stories and ideas come from the outside and their experiences

They're both good. I prefer the second, though.
Has anyone seen the Ben Stiller stunt-double documentary? I think it's on the DVD. Hilarious.

The first Mission: Impossible movie is leagues ahead of the second one; it has a unique feel and you think "I'm watching a Mission: Impossible movie," The second movie just feels like a James Bond rip-off.

Mission Impossible was more faithful to the series in that it had a lot suspense but from simply people walking or turning something electronic on. The second one had nothing but guns and boobs to solve all the problems. John Woo blows. Face/Off was good and Hard Boiled is well done but evrything after that is just ****.
"Red light, greenlight" is one of my favorite one liners from that infamous helicopter in tunnel sequences, i hold that pretty high on my list of "all time greatest action sequences". MI2 had some rather bland shootouts and totally overused the mask rip from the original. In the first one i honeslty had no idea what would happen next, in MI2 i just wanted it to end. Mad

MI: Much better story, and DePalma builds much better supense.

MI2: Simple story, has a "cooler" (if you can say that) to it, and the action was ten times better.

Hottest Chick co-star: I will have to give that one to MI2. Thandi Newton cant act her way out of a wet paper sack, but she is hot!

cooler? MI2? i got a real homosexual overtone, men in leather on speedbikes, doves flying out of people's asses, and not to mention i think theres one female in the entire thing. i felt like john woo said "oh. me john woo. i want to make film, how you say cool? you americans like fire! So i put doves through fire! you like motor cylces? i make motorcyle fight long and boring and senseless. yes i am john woo. windtalkers 2 will be amazing."
in MI there was very little gunplay and more emphasis and stealth and gadgets (the gum come on that was amazing!). it also had a better cast. Vanessa Redgrave, John Voight, and even though he died, Jean Reno. I like tom but he looks awfully silly as an "agent" with that long hair. now that i think about im gonna toss my MI2 and go out and buy Mission Impossible...peace.

Big Grin I personally like MI2. It was awesome. However I don't hate John Woo (he cool). Just some movies aren't what we except them to be but it doesn't mean it wasn't great ... also I will agree about Thandi, she can't act (mostly because I don't think the roles that she takes are challenging enough) however she is hot.Cool

I liked the ending to MI:2....it was cool. But the rest kinda sucked.

I don't HATE John Woo either...it's just his new movies from the US Production Companies or whatever SUCK compared to his tight as hell Hong Kong movies like Hard-Boiled.
