Ok - finally watched Crank cause I wanted a mindless fun "guy" film to watch while my wife is out of town. It is what it is. Enjoyable to watch but it looked like that skater guy from "On the Lot" edited it.

Anyways - I was looking at the back of the DVD case and I saw something that was so ridiculous I still can't stop laughing:

A "FAMILY FRIENDLY" audio track where you can watch the film without the expletives....

Ok - Am I the only person to find it RIDICULOUS that there is "Family-Friendly Audio" included in this DVD. Family Friendly? Have you seen this film? The guy has sex with a woman in public, there's blood and guts and breasts everywhere... (not that I'm complaining - I enjoyed all of that - but does anyone else see the irony here?)

It's rated R for crying out loud. If you want family friend go rent a G rated movie. It's kind of like those services that edit all of the "objectionable" things out of movies for families....

But FAMILY FRIENDLY AUDIO? That has to me the most hypocritical, ironic, and messed up thing that I've ever heard.

Anyways - RANT OVER. The dialogue in the movie was pretty bad. The editing was horrible. Etc etc... That thing on the back of the DVD still cracks me up though.

I only saw Crank once, and then I read a review of it over at CHUD.com which gave it a 9/10. And the more I think about that movie, the more I love it. I really think it's a great film, and I think it's almost tongue in cheek the way it's done. The way violence is so over the top and there are gratuitous scenes of violence and sex. Imagine Grand Theft Auto meant for the big screen. I don't know, I don't think the filmmakers are as dumb as it seems, and I think the audio friendly track is just part of the joke.

The fact that the title screens are in video game format and they hint at him possibly surviving a 500 foot fall at the end of the film sort of shows you the lunacy. I think the scene that sums up the attitude of the film (and is my personal favorite) is the one where Jason Statham jumps out of an alley way and slices a guy's hand off with a knife. He then looks at the guy with awe and glee and says the best line possible:

"That was pretty fúckin' cool, wasn't it?"

Maybe check the boards before posting double threads. You're skating on thin ice, and just begging to be banned.

PS> Notice my original opinion of the movie is much like yours. Maybe yours will change too?
