i just saw Grindhouse, and i have to say that as a whole it was a great experience. However it sort of felt like this movie was somehow greater than the sum of it's parts, seeing as Deathproof and Planet Terror were both just alright...Maybe that is the idea? Nonetheless, i thought that the fake trailers were absolutely hilarious. Hobo with a Shotgun anyone?

Yeah, I know what you mean. Planet Terror could have used more absurdity. Like, I wanted it to go over-the-top three times per minute, instead of just one. Death Proof didn't get good until the last third (which was freaking good) but, ah well.

is Grindhouse really worth watching? or is it all hype and no substance in characters and story. Rodriguez and Tarintino have said it's an exploitation film... so you're basically go in for the experience.

I might go watch it anyway, just to see what it's like... but I have low expectations of it., but Rose McGowan with a machine gun leg looks hilarious and worth checking out.

The most fun I've had in a movie theater for a while.

yeah, I've seen the trailer... I guess I was hoping for something more. oh well...

I'm sure it'll be a box office hit regardless and critics will praise it despite its content. I guess these movies are just meant to be watched for fun and that's all.

it is the kind of movie that you see because it will be fun, not because it really is a "good" movie...this is how i felt about Snakes on a Plane, and i thought that it was a rewarding experience.

Grindhouse is also the kind of movie that you have to see in the theatre, because the group audience experience adds a lot.

Yeah I saw it last night and I really recommend seeing it in a theatre, you get a really visceral experience watching it.

I think the movie is good for films as a whole, it's something new with a different edge, and sometimes the marquee outside a theatre can get pretty stale.

Also, of those who have seen it, which did you prefer more "Planet Terror" or "Death Proof"? Personally I liked DP more (car chase terrifying), but I know others would like PT just as much. The fake trailers really stole the show though, especially the Thanksgiving one.

i liked Planet Terror better, mostly because Death Proof was pretty boring for the first 2/3.

I read that the trailer for "Hobo with a Shotgun" doesn't play with the american version of Grindhouse, which is a shame because i thought it was the funniest one, with Thanksgiving coming a close second.

I thought Planet Terror was great. One of the most enjoyable experiences I've ever had in a theatre. The audience was reacting to it as if they were at a sporting event. Great stuff.

I was a little dissappointed with Tarantino's segment though. I mean, the dialogue was great. The acting was great - especially Kurt Russell. The cinematogrophy was great. The car chase was unbelievable. But it all came together to make just a...well... mediocre movie in my opinion. It almost seemed as if Tarantino lost sight of what he was doing. He mixed purposely campy elements, with good filmmaking and they both met halfway.

Having said that, it was still totally worth the final sequence.

The theater experience was unlike any I've been to in a while, people were laughing and yelling out loud throughout the entire thing, it was really fun to be at.

I saw this last night, and loved it. SEE IT IN THEATERS. I know DVD won't do it justice. I loved all of it, I wasnn't bored by death proof, it was great, as was Kurt Russel (the ending was ****ing amazing). I think Death Proof was a better made film, but Planet Terror was more fun. The trailers were amazing, Machete and Don't were ****ing great, as was Thanksgiving. Werwolf Women was all right, they could have done more with it.

And WTF why no Hobo with a Shotgun? Sometimes America blows dick.

Oh man, especially Don't. I think that was probably the most I laughed in the whole movie, and I laughed quite a bit.

I heard Edgar Wright (Don't) and some of the other trailer directors were toying with the idea of expanding their sections into features.

Damn. I walked out after 40 minutes of Death Proof. Something about Tarantino's drivel reminds me how short life is and how many more interesting ways I could spend my time.

Planet Terror is awesome, though. That and the trailers were well worth the ticket.

Seemed to me that only the trailers adhered to the style of old sex/gore exploitation flicks. I could have watched five minutes of either feature and immediately recognized the director. Thanksgiving and Don't were nearly perfect, and Machete came very close. Rob Zombie's trailer was less an homage or a satire and (perhaps expectedly) more just a farce.
