it seems like such a good idea..tim burton doing charlie and the chocolate factory.

the trailer was pretty entertaining..the stupid song..johnny depp looking very androgynous..lots of crazy stuff.

I like his hair in that, and I agree Tim Burton is the perfect man for the job. Anybody here about QT appearing on the muppet new movie?

I hadnt heard about QT, but the charlie trailer didn't really do it for me. The whole thing was too goofy, and didnt really prove that they had a reason to remake it. I like the original a lot, and figured the only way Burton would get it right would be to go darker than the original, or into some kind of stylized interpretation. So far all i see is Johnny depp in a top hat, and a weak rehash of the first one. Not really looking forward to this, but ill give it the benefit of the doubt, cause i like TB

i think burton is keeping it true to the original book, not the 1960-whatever movie. the book is a lot darker than the movie was, roald dahl was a weird guy.

This movie will be way different then that 1970s version of the film. Roald Dahl didnt even like the original movie because they had changed it so much, including even changing its title to name it after a line of chocolate bars they made for the movie. I think Tim Burton will do a great job with this one. I just hope they dont just hype this up as a Johnny Depp movie that all the ladies want to see.

I thought the movie was pretty good. Depp, as usual, was fun to watch and I think Freddy Highmore is a great young talent. I kept having to remind myself not to compare it to the origional which was frustrating. I also didn't really like the use of CG when it was unnecessary (i.e. the Oomp Loompas... just get a bunch of midgets!) overall i'd give it a B+/A-

I'd say it's one of the best so far this year (it's tied with Sin City which was the previous best, imo). At first the cg annoyed me, then as the movie got more into it, I didn't even notice/care, cause there was so much that it added to the movie. I'm so glad the sets weren't cramped little rooms like the old one, and were vast and very organic like they should be. Johnny Depp was perfect as Willy, mean, crazy and creepy. Definately going to be one to rent and watch again when it comes out.
