i just watched this film recently. I thought it was pretty goood, but perhaps a little slow in parts.

But the ending of the film has got me stumped. What was with that monument thing? And the old man? And the ugly alien looking thing?

I was hoping that someone out there could fill me in coz i got no idea.

Please excuse my ignorance.

I think a lot of the appeal of 2001 is that it leaves a lot unanswered. It doesn't attempt to answer all those questions. It is meant so people can come to their own conclusions. I firmly believe that if it had tried to answer all the mystery, no one would still be talking about that film.

That probably doesn't help you any, but that is my opinion.

There was a sequel to 2001...I think it was called 2010. I wonder if that answered any of these crazy questions..? All I know is the box has a picture of the crazy star child fetus thing.

To my understanding the sequel is really bad, really uneccesary, and doesn't answer any questions about space fetus.

Then again, I've only heard this from Kubrick Geeks/Fans...who must compare the sequel (which Kubrick had nothing to do with) to the original. So maybe it might be good. I don't know.

Kubricks name was mentioned in the credits somewhere.
I'm willing to bet my firstborn child on it.

I'm gonna go rent it and find out. I didn't think it was that bad a film.

Sorry to bring up this topic again. But after further contemplation, I realised that this film (2001: A Space Odyssey) made absolutely no sense to me. There were just so many parts that left me thinking "What the..."

Am I just stupid, or did other people feel they had to watch this film more than once to understand it.

Where are those die-hard Kubrick fans whe n you need em???

you dont have to "get" everthing all the time. if you go to a museum and look at paintings, you may not understand the meaning behind a certain painting, just take it for what it is, a piece of art. for 2001 just enjoy the spectacular visuals. no need to find a deeper meaning if you didnt get one the first time viewing it.

if youre looking for a witty signature, youre looking in the wrong place.

2001, 2010, 2036(i think) and 3001 are the 4 books that were written. You have to read the books to really understand.

I enjoyed both 2001 and 2010. The movie can't explain everything since its dealing with the higher being/higher intelligence. Its something that just is. Its basically a take on evolution.

For the year 2001 was shot I give them credit on the movie assuming what spance travel/life would be like and the special effects.
